Diamond Crown Maximus Robusto No. 5 Review
After reading many other reviews and smoking a lot more cigars, I’m going to take a shot at an numerically rating system based on a few overall critical of “Overall Appearance,” being 12%, “Construction and Draw being” being 19%, “Burn” being 19%, and “Taste” being the remaining 50%.
Diamond Crown Maximus Robusto No. 5, Grab Bag Purchase, but CI has for $10 Overall Appearance: Bad (0), OK (1), Good (2) Appearance: Good (2) Consistency of Wrapper: Good (2) Construction and Draw: Bad (0), OK (1), Good (2) Construction too Lose/Hard: Good (2) Draw too Easy/Hard: Good (2) Well Made: Good (2) Burn: Bad (0), OK (1), Good (2) Initial: OK (1) Even: OK (1) Too Fast/Slow: Good (2) Taste: Bad (0), OK (2), Good (4) First Third: OK (2) Second Third: Bad (0) Final Third: OK (2) Complexity: Bad (0) Total score of 18 out of 32 – 56% I just finished a hard day of moving so I decided to check out my local B&M that is 2 blocks away from me – Havanna House. Check my review in the California section about it, but my general thought was it was not good as a cigar lounge. There were 2 other guys though that bought some cigars and we chatted a bit so the social interaction was quite nice. Review 1st Third It started a bit spicy and had a good lingering peppery flavor, but it soon started to get real salty, just bad bar nuts salty. It is not a particularly nice flavor for me, personally. 2nd Third This thing was like a salt lick this whole second third and I was getting pretty sick from the flavor of it. 3rd and Finish I kept on going as I hopped the flavor would improve and it did slightly. While the salt was still there, a slightly sweet and earthy flavor entered my palette. If there was no salt though, I definitely think it would have been a much better finish, but it wasn’t. Thoughts This cigar looks great and even the cellophane wrapper had the words “Robusto No.5” stamped on it in bold gold lettering. The construction was near flawless too; no hard spots, draw was good and overall well made. The burn though was not that great with an uneven initial burn and a few touchups but the speed was good. The flavor though was pretty bad, and honestly, the only reason I finished this cigar was because I was chatting with some other patrons. The first and last third were “decent” at best, but definitely the second third was very bad. I did get this in a grab bad purchase, but CI sells these for $10 which is way more than I’d ever pay for it, if I’d ever buy it again.
