Hold the press! Oliva Serie G Maduro Torpedo Review

Hold the press.... the square press!

Brand: Oliva
Build: Serie G
Size: 6x52 sq. press torpedo
Price: 5.00
Drink: Mt.Dewski

Backstory:

I was at a local B&M on the north side of Columbus. A friendly guy came up to me and noted how wonderful this cigar was. He was the same guy who talked highly of the nub. I let the cigar sit in my humi for about 4 weeks and I pulled it out tonight for a little after-work treat.

Let’s talk anatomy:

What a tight square press little body on this dark skinned beauty. Such nice 90 degree angles. And a sheen on that dark oily wrapper.

Foot style:
Very nicely constructed. A definite A+ on the form, it narrows a bit near the foot. Almost like a perfecto.

A nice snip of the point:

First light, so tight:
But not too tight, just right,. The aroma is wonderful. The start tastes of chocolate, a deep chocolate. The body is medium, it could be from some of the recent stogies I’ve smoked, Its very pleasant and hard to put down.

Working it in:
The cigar is a bit spicey and very smooth. The quality is there. The draw is perfect, a little warm, and a little loose but not bad. The flavor is that in which I have come to expect with the Oliva G. You really cant beat the oliva family cigars for the price point!

Re: Hold the press! Oliva Serie G Maduro Torpedo

Points to value:
Every time I draw the cigar I get a satisfying amount of smoke. It really keeps you where you want to be with the white lofty clouds.

Halfway home:
Rounding the bend, I had the 2.5 inch ash still on the cigar, it kept the ember nice and toasty, and it kept the flavor a little milder than expected as well as keep the cigar a little less hot. The flavor is awesome, so leathery, cedary, and the chocolate sense has gone away in favor of these other palette teasers.

Making rounds… not this cigar:
I love the ergonomics of this cigar, it feels good to hold. The sixe is perfect and the cigars form and draw have been consistent all night!

The end:
The flavor is rich, ever since the ash dropped. The chocolate sense is back, but its muted, and covered by a cedary overtone. I have enjoyed this stick, and for the value you cannot beat it.

CLIFFS:
1. construction is unmatched
2. flavor is ever changing
3. the cigar never burnt too hot
4. the ending was the most exciting part

Re: Hold the press! Oliva Serie G Maduro Torpedo

Well, this thread has inspired me, so I pulled out an Oliva G torpedo. Lovely dark wrapper with glistening specks of oils. Started out super smooth. About the halfway point I noticed some bitterness I rarely associate with these cigars. Look down and see black ooz coming from the head. First time I've ever seen tar like this in person. Luckily a couple snips of the Palio seems to have alleviated most of it. Man these are a nice cigar.
