Thumbs up Oliva Master Blends 2 Torpedo Review

I recently picked up a 5 pack of these hard to find smokes . . . well at least they are hard for me to find. I enjoyed the few MB 1's that I had last year so I thought I would give these a try.

Pre-Light

Beautiful wrapper, smooth and silky, the color of coffee and cream. Nice mellow aroma. Beautiful band and the characteristic laser etched logo. Nice and firm to the touch. I clipped it and the draw was firm but not tight.

Smoking Characteristics

Initial puffs were tasty. I generally prefer maduros but this cigar, while not strong flavored or overpowering in strength had nice flavors. Slightly nutty, and leathery an generally a nice mellow flavor. The ash was impeccable and only because I do not like a long ash I had to work at tappin it off when it reached an inch or so. About half-way through the flavors deepened and became a bit richer and more pronounced but still not overpowering. At about 3/4 through the draw tightened up so I clipped a bit more off (I did not clip iit very deep at first) and it opened up beautifully. Throughout this cigar produced nice rich flavorful smoke.

Overall Impression

A vey nice cigar for a change from the maduros I generally smoke. Other than being a bit on the mild side I cannot say anything bad about this cigar. If you like mild to medium cigars with nice flavor this is a good choice. On a CA rating scale I would give this smoke a very respectable 89.

Have you had anything from the Ole lineup? I picked up a few Ole Classic sticks based on CA's high rating. I wasn't impressed with the Ole. It was a bit on the mild side. I don't like to rule out mfr. based on one cigar and would be willing to give them another chance.

I think the OMB line, both the I and II's, are some of the best NC cigars made today. They are rich and velvety;a power house of flavor, while keeping the nicotine moderate and without any harshness. I just love 'em.

Excellent review -- thanks.

Sounds like a great cigar. I enjoy a fuller bodied smoke, but also really like the "O" Classic. How would you say the new MB II compared to the O Classic?
Great review by the way. Made me want to try it as soon as I can find it.

Unfortunately I cannto answer the two previous questions regarding the "O" since I have not had this line yet. However I have the "O" Bold in my humi right now awating the right time to lite it up.

Much richer in flavor, fuller and more rounded in body, a bit less strong in nicotine. The classic is a touch on the harsh side and quite one dimensional in flavor as compared to the OMB.

Just my opinion based on my experience.

Very nice review! Sounds like something I'd like to add to my stash!

I, too, favor the maduros... But a good-tasting natural or claro is a nice change-of-pace.

Re: Oliva Master Blends 2 Torpedo

Sorry for not posting more but work is grazy. I have smoked them both and like the 2 much better. I do have almost a full box of the OMB 1 along the the box it self. I might be looking for a trade soon.

Re: Oliva Master Blends 2 Torpedo

I picked up some MBII robustos a while back. Great smokes. I would like to try the MBI to see how they compare. Like Puro I have a couple of "O" bold in my humi but have yet to try them.

KVM and others who have not tried the OMB 1 in order to show good faith I am willing to send two (robusto size). If you like them we can work on a trade.

I will also post later in the trade area. Send me a pm. Thanks Dan.

Re: Oliva Master Blends 2 Torpedo

I was not impressed by the one I had a few months back (Robusto). I bought the Torpedo and will let it sit for awhile before picking it up as people have told me some age on the MBI helped quite a bit.
