VS Box-Pressed Lonsdale (M) Review
PRELUDE:
I've been working on building a stock of low-priced sticks to lay away for aging. Because I favor maduros, and like the box-pressed stuff, at $1.80/stick for a fiver, this 6 X 44 was worth a try. In fairness to the cigar, I smoked it after it had rested in the humi for just a few weeks. CONSTRUCTION: Sharply box-pressed, medium-dark wrapper (Brazilian), tightly constructed with Dominican filler. Like most lonsdales, it "felt" very comfortable. BURN: Getting it properly stoked took a bit of work, but once the ash evened out, it stayed that way without any corrections. Draw was a bit tight, but not objectionably so. I reasonably expected a 45-min. smoke... But this thing went on and on, well over an hour... At times, I could have sworn it was burning backwards! SENSORY IMPRESSIONS: Being a maduro-lover, I'd describe this one as "plain, simple, and good." It's what I would expect from a relatively cheap, medium body maduro. It had that nice, earthy flavor, by no means "complex," but actually quite satisfying. I also found it's slightly pungent aftertaste quite pleasant. OVERALL: The wonderfully slow burn made this one a nice "companion" cigar. It didn't "rush me." It stayed wit me through (and was enhanced by) a couple of frosty mugs of dark beer, with plenty of time left over. I will aquire more of these for long-term storage. (As usual, my impressions are entirely subjective.) |

May be right!! But if it's a cigar I can enjoy for under 2 bucks, I'm not concerned with anything but that. |
