Well I'm new at this but lets give it a try.
Tonight, like most nights, is Friday night poker at a friend of mine's house. So tonight I chose the Magnifico. Nice oily wrapper. Good prelight aroma. It had been sitting in my humidor for maybe a couple months...2-3 or so. So I figured it was good enough to get that crappy green taste out that I have been getting recently. When I lit it, it was quite a bit less spicy than I was expecting. The last almost black wrapped cigar I had was a CAO MX2, which the first was very spicy, even though the second was not. So I assumed this would be the same seeing as how it hadnt aged as long as the 2nd MX2. To my surprise though it was not. It was also a bit smoother on the inhale than I was expecting. When it came to draw though I was a tad dissapointed. I usually like an easy draw. I hate having to suck the living crap out of it to get anything, but I also dont really like it when it feels like you are sucking through 1 inch wide straw. This wasnt that extreme but it was easier than i would normally choose. The taste wasn't super complex...but I have a newbie palate too so I may have just missed the subtle hints. I did notice while smoking though that every now and then I'd get a hint of cedar but it may have just been the cedar on the cigar itself from sitting in the humi. One thing I really liked about this was that it lasted forever. I think it took me somewhere close to an hour and a half to finish this bad boy off. Also, the buzz was just enough. I like it when I finish a cigar and I know I smoked a cigar. And this one wasn't lacking at all there. Buzzed me quite a bit but it wasnt anything that I couldnt handle. I wasnt close to sickness or falling over or anything. I also had a little trouble keeping an even burn. I had to correct it a few times but once it got to about half way or a little less it evened up real nice. The ash on this beast lasted quite a while too. It was probably half way or a little more of the smoke before it fell off. Then it was still firm enough for me to pick it up and move it. Nice. Probably the strongest ash I've had in a cigar. So I guess to sum up all my rambling, I'd say that this is a pretty good smoke. Could be a little more complex but besides that, it was quite good. I'll probably be buying another. Maybe a different size to see how that turns out too. |

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I've found the Bravo, Clasico, Magnifico and Maximo's to be great tasting and deep inticing smokes. But, I've been plagued with plugged cigars! My B&M replaces them, but it seems that each one that was unsmokeable had 25 pounds of filler in a 5 pound wrapper. It sucks when the taste is so good.

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
last night at the poker party we actually had a few plugged problems too. my little brother had a padron fumas that was plugged a bit. it wasnt really aged though but that i dont think would have been the problem. and a RyJ Habano I gave to a friend had a really bad draw problem. I mean really bad. He tried to smoke it then i asked for a taste and you had to suck, i mean suuuuck, like 5 times to get smoke. wierd. besides poking like a toothpick or a paperclip to poke through the plug, does anyone have any good ideas?

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I agree with the Magnifico being a little less spicy and having less undertones of spice, cedar and chocolate/cocoa , as I personally prefer the C.A.O Mx2 anytime of the year! However I have heard before of Partagas Blacks problem of pluggin out on people. Cant say I ever had that problem before, as I smoked around 4 or 5 boxes of Torpedo and magnifico black. How weird right???? And around the end , the black does seem to get a bit simple and loses its edge at around the last 1/4 of the cigar. Something that in my opinion NEVER NEVER happens to the CAO Mx2.... Just my opinion...

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I love the taste of the Partagas Black but the burn is always a problem for me. They go out on me constantly.
We rarely have trouble with plugged cigars, but when we do I've made a poker that works really well for that. Poke it and go on. Frank uses the poker to knub cigars mostly. I have small fingers and don't need it. I can add you to the list of poker's if you'd like to have one but looks like it's gonna be into the summer before I'll have a chance to get around to it. Gonna start making them again just as soon as the weather starts getting warm. PM me if you're interested and I'll put you on the list.

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I love the Maximos... and I can't ever remember having a problem with them... they are so smooth and creamy... just kind of melts in your mouth....
I have not had the same sucess with the other sizes... the plug issues have long been a problem with this line... and they just don't seem to have quite the same flavor (at least in my opinion).

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I have smoked boxes & boxes of the Classico size and have never had a plugged one! Weird how other's experiences are so different!

Re: Partagas Black Label Magnifico
I love the Clasicos. That last one I had lasted for about 1 hr 15 min and it was creamy, smooth and bold the whole way through. No plugs on those that I've smoked.
