Stars and Stripes -Taboo Barber Pole gone South

Vitals

Brand: Taboo
Model: Barber pole
Size: small?
Cost:Free, Thanks to a fellow BOTL
Time: 40 mins????

Backstory:

Well, my obsession with Barber poles has been met today. I recently won a contest and was awarded this aesthetically pleasing stick. I am the guy who always says that there's more to a cigar than just the taste/flavor, i feel that you must combine all qualities of a cigar to really have an intimate relationship.

Starters:
Can you find the barberpole cigar?

Lightning:
Well, it's a smaller ring gauge cigar so i expect a bit of a tighter draw. The cigar has the twang and fruity effec that a CC has.. .but it bears no peppery tounge tingle. One of my concerned was the bunching of tar that came out of the head when i wiped it with my finger 3-4 times. A lot of tar. A LOT OF TAR... kind of unenjoyable, expecially paired with the tight draw.

Spot the difference????

Benefits of the doubts:
So, i hear alot of good about Taboo from the members here so i decided to let the cigar sit and simmer. The draw was terribly tight, and got even tighter (later on)... si that what you call "plugged"???

I don't want to rip on these guys over at taboo, but this is not what i expected... did i get a bad egg?

Re: Stars and Stripes -Taboo Barber Pole gone South

Positive note:

The ash stayed on nice and long. The draw was still very bad. I might have to give Taboo another try some day, But this particular cigar has let me down.

The ash:

I give up!!!

Draw is really tight... I'm a newb, but im going to call this cigar "plugged"... its too much work for hardly any smoke. Can someone please verify the quality of taboo cigars? because this one is a double bogey to me. Looks awesome, smoked "not-so-good". No offense to the taboo guys, everyone gets a sour grape from time-to-time....

Someone please respond in regard to their quality etc.. please

Cliffs:

1. i've never smoked a plugged cigar before

2. thing looks cool as ferk

3. flavor was a cuban twang minus the pepper

Thanks for stopping by.

Bobby

OMG - Freaking BEST review yet my man. That was priceless...the pics...man, I just spit out my beer. From the candycanes, er, barberpolecanes to the camel toe, that's pure genius.

You know, I've never had the pleasure (or is it displeasure?) of smoking a Taboo. I've been wanting to pull the trigger and order from Rob but haven't yet. I've been preoccupied with the damn Anejo/Opus sales on here lately. Damn the slope.

Do you have another you can compare with? I know a lot of guys on here really enjoy their cigars.

Never seen 'em either but I know Rob & the fellas at Taboo are known to be real swell guys with excellent customer service (I don't know from personal experience...yet, but I've heard). I think you should mention the problems you had with this one when you talk to Rob. I bet he'd throw in a couple for free with your order to make up for the bad experience.

Re: Stars and Stripes -Taboo Barber Pole gone South

Cigars, being a man made product will occasionally have tight draws. Never judge a cigar on one sample. I have a couple of these but have not lit them up yet. I have yet to see anyone complain about the draw so you probably just got a bad apple so to speak.

Re: Stars and Stripes -Taboo Barber Pole gone South

I like them when they're "on." I liked the first two I had a lot - very creamy and a lovely intertwining of the maduro and Connecticut flavors. Nice, nice cigar. The next two I've had tasted of nothing. Nothing at all, and a tad bitter. I have two left, and I hope they're like the first two.

But Rob's a stand-up guy. Great service. I'd buy other Taboo lines that I hear about, but these are going 50:50 right now - not a great score to me.

Bobby -

I have had a few of these and I have enjoyed each one EXCEPT the first. While I didn't get the tight draw, I got the most unique burn I have ever seen: the natural wrap burned great, but the maduro just wouldn't light! After the first ash, I was left with a corkscrew of charred wrapper off the end!

Anyway, Rob definitely made it up to me on my next order and the couple he sent me as replacements smoked great. It is a very creamy and smooth smoke, but not at all light on flavor. Do yourself a favor and smoke a few more, I bet you a couple gurkhas that you will see what I am talking about!
