ARTURO FUENTE 898 FLOR FINA What a NICE smoke

Well it didn't make me say WOW!! BUT it is a VERY enjoyable smoke. I think these are priced well for such a terrific smooth and tasty stick.
Size: 6 x 47
Shape: Grand Corona
Wrapper: Cameroon
Filler: Dom. Rep.
Binder: Dom. Rep.

Everything I want in a smoke is here. Wonderful prelight taste, excellent construction, wonderful burn.
I can never go wrong with grabbing a FUENTE.
Tho I had a box of CANONES ~ 20 years ago and I didn;t like them.
I probably didn't let them sit as long as needed in my box. BUT...I was surprised that I disliked the CANONES so much.

Get some AF 898 FLOR FINA.
A very fine smoke. for less than $6 a stick.
Tom

898 is a different beast, but the 858 is quite a tasty treat!! They're a nice discovery, once you stop overlooking them

For me, the 858 maduro is amongst the best out there.

Now the 898 varnished is a whole nuther story

Thanks for the review! I have always enjoyed the AF Cameroon wrapper sticks. Short Story, Master Piece etc.

I'll have to get a couple of those on my radar me thinks!

Thanks again!

Re: ARTURO FUENTE 898 FLOR FINA What a NICE smoke

I am baffled and lost. I have been to the Fuente factory in Santiago DR. I know Carlito Fuente, Lucy his asst, Sam Mendez his manager who runs the factory in the DR. I cut my cigar teeth on the 8-5-8 over 9 years but I've never heard of a Fuente 898.

The numbers 8-5-8 is for Arturo Fuente who died at 85 years old. The designation 898 refers to a 25 count box where the cigars are stacked a row of 8, a row of 9 and a row of 8 cigars. Partagas has them. So does Avo, Ashton and Cuesta Rey makes a #898. All of these made at the Fuente factory but none are called Fuente. I made a few calls and nobody at Fuente in the DR has ever heard of a Fuente 898.

I would suggest that if someone is selling you 898 Flor Fina then he is buying fake Fuente cigars. And there are plenty of fake Opus X being sold on eBay.

I am very sure that it was a mistake by the original poster.

And Fuente does not make Avo. Why would you call the Fuente Factory in the DR when you could call the Fuente/Newman offices in Tampa?

Re: ARTURO FUENTE 898 FLOR FINA What a NICE smoke

No doubt an error on my eyes and mind.

Thank you for pointing this out.
I'd hate to keep saying 898..
Tho now it's ingrained into my soul! and I'll always be saying that instead of 858...
Hahahaha
Thanks
Great pic BTW

And Fuente does not make Avo. Why would you call the Fuente Factory in the DR when you could call the Fuente/Newman offices in Tampa?

Cuesta Rey is what I was referring to as maid by Fuente. But so is Ashton. Avo is Davidoff. I used the word all. My bad.

As for the DR, I know people there, but not at JC Newman in Tampa. I have met the rep once but couldn't remember his name.

It's funny though. There are a couple of articles out about the Fuente 898, but they refer back to the Cuesta Rey and show a photo of the Cubita. Like this ad 898.

Any way, I was baffled. Thanks for the heads up of my Avo placement...

Thumbs up Re: ARTURO FUENTE 898 FLOR FINA What a NICE smoke

Because of this info re the 858. I double checked I knew I had another of the same stick and it is an 858
Thanks again...
You had me thinking MAYBE I was right with the 898 and I had a rarity of some sort...

I wasn't saying that you had to talk to JC Newman, you could have gotten all of the information you need by calling Fuente/Newman which is the Fuente part of things. I just hate seeing people post that they called the factories in the DR for something so minor. They have enough going on, as all they are is a production facility. All questions should be directed to the the US branch where they are equipped to answer these types of things. Maybe you were not aware of this, so no harm, no foul.

Re: ARTURO FUENTE 898 FLOR FINA What a NICE smoke

Not a problem. If I had a cigar for everytime I was confused, I would need walk in humidor . Though I do still enjoy the 858s a lot...You want to try something that will blow you away by AF, try the Cuban Belcoso. It is around $6 and is one of their best...
