Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild Review
Arturo Fuente
Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild 50 x 4 1/2 Dominican Filler and Binder Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper $3.50 The Chateau Fuente dresses to impress in a cedar sleeve trimmed with green ribbon that matches the Fuente Brand label. Lovely dark brown maduro wrapper, however a little rough, with noticeable veins. A well constructed cigar. It draws nice and smooth. My initial impressions are of cocoa with some underlying earthiness. I almost think I taste some smokiness, perhaps creosote? Hmmm. I have an idea... I am no tasting expert yet, but my intuition told me to pair this with a single malt scotch to explore the sweet, smokey notes I was picking up. This is a Glenlivet 15yr, and as expected it is enhancing those flavors nicely. I think the scotch is also concentrating the sweet smokey flavors on my tongue differently than it did with just the cigar. Despite my great pairing experience, the Chateau Fuente never seemed to open up much. Its flavors were good, but also one dimensional and consistent start to finish. This was by no means a disappointing smoke, and for about $3.50 a cigar, it is a good bargain, but it just didn't excite me much. I like Fuentes, but there are better maduros to be had than this offering. The quest continues...

Re: Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild
Nice review.
I seem to have the same impression when smoking these.... especially when paired with a scotch or rum. The drink often overpowers the smoke and makes it seem one dimensional. When I have them with water or Coke they seem to have a bit more depth. If you can let 'em sit for 2-3 years they improve dramatically and will pair good with most anything you can throw at them. A lot better depth after a nice little nap. ![]() |

Re: Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild
Nice review and great pairing with the single malt! I like the Sungrown Chateau Fuente a bit better. Give one a shot unless you are strictly looking for the perfect maduro.

Re: Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild
If you can find them, try the Hemingway Maduros. One of the best Fuente offerings, imo.

Re: Chateau Fuente Maduro Rothschild
I gotta tell you that this cigar has been a very good cigar for me since the first time I tried it. I think you either like the Fuente taste or you don't and it appears that it doesn't ring your bell. Let them age a few months and try one again but choose a double chateau instead so the smoke can develop.
