2000 A Fuente Anejo Review

I acquired these in a large sampler from our very own cigarlvr. I had never had an anejo and after watching them fly off the shelves at the local b&m I had to find out what the fuss was about. Pre-light aroma smelled of cinnamon and perhaps light cardamom. The foot toasted nicely, and yielded a generous (but not loose) draw. Initial flavors were cinnamon and smoked almond.

The first third was surprisingly light-bodied, I don't want to say flat but it did not quite have the edge I had hoped for. Flavors of roasted almond and perhaps pistachio were what I could pick up.

The second third is where this cigar came into its own, it transformed and flavors of chipotle and ancho could be found, there was a deep smoky spice to this cigar. Amazing. The draw stayed consistant, the ash was quite white which provided an amazing contrast to the nearly black wrapper.

In the third and final act, the cigar underwent a second metamorphosis. Wafting under the nose produced scents of mesquite. This was also evident in the flavor, which had taken on a very woodsy note.

This was a great cigar, however I can't help but wonder if perhaps the additional age had muted the cigar somewhat. I will re-review with a younger anejo for comparison at a later date. Nonetheless, the construction and draw were flawless and the flavor and aroma were the most dynamic and complex I've smoked. I give it a 91/100 using my entirely informal rating scale.

Nice review!
I always taste a hint of raisins when I smoke the Anejos.

Opus wrappers smell of raisins.

Love the Anejo, wish my B&Ms didnt jack the price 3-4x MSRP.

Nice review, I don't think that additional age will mute flavors, rather it combines them further making them much more complex and more difficult to identify.

IMHO, that is what an aged stick is all about.

Thank you again for a great review!

Re: 2000 A Fuente Anejo

Good review.

I have two Anejo 55s I picked up on Black Friday from my not so local B&M (it is 100 plus mile round trip for me). They were only allowing 2 per customer and they were about half again higher than MSRP.

Now I'm torn. Do I smoke then right away or do I let them sit and as silly as this may sound, just enjoy looking at them. Anejo are pretty. Maybe I’ll just pick a good day and smoke one and let the other rest.

Your review makes me really tempted to light one up.

I definitely didn't get raisins on these - dried fruit is one flavor I always look for when tasting cigars. But that's not to say that other anejos don't, so when I smoke another, I'll definitely try to seek that flavor out.

FWIW I've never smoked an opus X but I've got one sitting in the humi and it smells to me exactly like dried black cherries. It's uncanny, I would almost think it were infused if I didn't know better.

If anybody wants some anejos at a good price, as of this afternoon my B&M (nickleby's in omaha) had a sealed box of 46s for 243, or 9.75 a pop. If anybody jumps on this, please just tell Tim that Claude sent you.
