Famous Maduro Nicaraguan Review

I went home for the holidays and took a Famous Maduro Nic with me for a bike ride around the old neighborhood. I originally picked these up based on the speculation it is made by Oliva.

Appearance: Nice dark wrapper with some veins. Advertised as 5x50 but appears to be slightly shorter than that. All the sticks in the bundle had a uniform appearance.

Construction: No problems here. Good draw and straight burn. Had one relight, but that one was my fault. Didn't notice any soft spots in any of the cigars as I was putting them away in the humi.

Flavor: Overall rich and smooth with a woodsy overtone. Also had a bit of the sweetness I only find in maduro cigars. I didn't detect any spiciness. Flavor was consistent, but maybe a little more pronounced towards the end. I would peg it as medium in body.

Value: Fantastic. I'm no stranger to cheap smokes and this one did not have any of the unfortunate charateristics of a cheap smoke. With less than a month in my humi, it was not bitter or harsh and was well constructed. Can be had at Famous for slightly over $2 a stick.

So is this a Oliva Serie O Maduro? A second?
Can't say. I've had the Oliva Serie O Natural, but never the Maduro. The Famous Maduro Nic was slightly shorter that the Serie O Natural I have in my humi. Not sure what that means. Famous certainly raises the possibilty by placing an O or G on the bands of this line (there is also a Famous Habano Nic and a Famous Cameroon Nic).

Bottom Line: Regardless of heritage, I enjoyed the heck out of it will be picking up more at $42 for a bundle of 20.

I'm not a big maduro fan but I really enjoy the Famous Nicaraguan 2000
Connecticut Toro natural. Mild-Med. body, I smoke them on my morning commute. I have a lot of premium & value smokes in my box but this one is a winner regardless of price.

Re: Famous Maduro Nicaraguan

These are indeed made by Oliva. How do I know that you ask? My bundles of maduros have little tags at the bottom inside the cello that say Oliva. As for what they are, I find them to be similar in a lot of ways to the Oliva O only these seem to be slightly harsh for the first inch or so. In any event, they are a very well made and pretty tasty cigar. I am hoping some down time helps with the harshness. To my taste, the maduros are tastier than the habanos in this line. When we are talking about the Oliva O, I like the habano more than the maduro, lol, go figure.

Nice review, thanks
