3 mini reviews

Wow, what a way to bring in the new year. 3 smokes in one day. Don't normally do this in the summer, never mind winter. But the weather co-operated.

1st up was a Gran Habanos 3 Siglos.
The cigar was a pyramid. Wrapper had a few big viens in it, but felt firm with no soft spots. Smell was promising. First few puffs were mild in strength but nice body to it. A bit of spice. That went away after the first inch and the body became a bit richer. Still very mild a smooth. A lot of smoke with each puff. The ash was like nothing I recall seeing before. It was a yellowy brown in colour. I normally like stronger smokes than this, but I can't snork them too much. With this one, most of my exhales went through the nose. The burn was fairly good, but went off a bit at times. The last 3rd was basically a write off. The nicotine seemed to accumulate and changed the delicate mild profile. Just became charcoally and unpleasant, so I put it down. Nice smoke except for the ending. Worth the approx $5 I paid, but not more IMO. Left me wanting for a bit more.

Next up was a Taboo SF Churchill. I think it was an original, but may have been a boot camp. I have yet to smoke a Taboo I didn't like. Some may not be all that complex, but the construction on all of them is excellent.
This one looked great in the dark maduro wrapper. Smelled nice too. A strong but smooth begginning which got a bit richer after the first inch. Didn't seem to change much through out until near the last quarter where it just hit it's stride. The burn was tack sharp and I could leave it for a while without having it go out. Really liked the smoke overall. Not really complex but a good honest smoke.

Last one was a Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic. It was a robusto. First DPG that I tried. This one blew me away. Right from the first puff, lots of strenth and flavor. Kind of in the woody, leather tones to me. This one changed up after the first inch. Almost like a bit of chocolate, just a hint, trying to get noticed. This was the first cigar that I ever felt like I had to finesse it. Nice and slow. Easy puffs. Burn was excellent, and again, didn't have to baby sit it to make certain it didn't go out. It was reminisent of a CC, but didn't have the twang. The last 3rd was had some wood with some spice, undertone of chocolate, just richer. Man I loved this cigar. I nubbed it. Best one of all 3. I'm going to resist the urge to get a box and maybe try a few Don Pepin samplers. Was really surprised at the price of these. Very reasonable for what you get. One of the best NC's I've tried to date.

Nice way to start the new year.

Makes me want to head down to the celler for a smoke. Will look for those last two at my local B&M. Thanks

I don't think you will find the Taboo anywhere exept from Taboo Cigars. I think they are a B&M as well as online retailer.

Re: 3 mini reviews

I've got a sampler of Taboo's in the mail as we speak. I am looking forward to trying them all. The rave reviews around this place speak volumes.
