Camacho Liberty 2005 Review

Storage Conditions: These have been stored in their original cedar “coffins” in my cabinet humidor at 71% humidity. The first of November, 2005, I removed the cigars from the original paper wrappings, and then placed them back into the coffins. They have been resting quietly in this state for nearly 4 months since my last review.

Tasting Notes: The 2005 Camacho Liberty series uses the rare top leaves of the Corojo harvest. The tobacco plants used for the Liberty are a very small variety and yield intensely flavorful cigars because the nutrients of the plant are concentrated in uppermost leaves. Given the small yield, these smokes are very select. Only 2,000 boxes were produced. The 2005 Liberty also includes pre-embargo Cuban tobaccos cultivated in 1961. This obviously well aged tobacco is in very limited supply and is not available to every manufacturer.

The look and feel of this cigar is truly exceptional. The dark brown wrapper has the appearance of a dark roasted coffee bean. The wrapper is oily and smooth and the vein structure is barely apparent. The cigar is tapered at both ends, which gives it an odd appearance but also makes it a cinch to cut and light.

The nose on the wrapper is pleasing albeit very feint, but after clipping the cap, one can smell the enticing aromas of the filler leaf.

I gently toast the foot of this stogie and it responds with a full glowing ember that I then puff to life. The flavors of this stogie are immediately full and rich. No bitterness, just lip-smacking goodness. The burn over the first inch is impeccable and the ash is beautiful: dark gray and holding firm.

The coffee looks of the wrapper give forth a dark roasted coffee flavor along with earthy tobacco. After an inch or so, I gently drop the ash into its final resting place: one of my wife’s outdoors potted plants. The ash falls perfectly formed and flush with the foot of the cigar. It doesn’t get any better than this. This is the kind of cigar experience that we all would like to have every time out, but that our pocketbooks deny us.

I am truly enjoying this smoke. In fact so much that I wasn’t even aware as a two-inch ash fell right in my lap. Missed my computer keyboard though, AND fell flush with the foot. Gotta like it!

This is a great smoke, it gets fuller and richer with flavor as the smoke progresses. The burn and draw are nearly flawless.

These are fairly pricey smokes but certainly worth it for the sheer experience. I would recommend these for people who like a full-body, full-flavored smoke.

Re: Camacho Liberty 2005

Really? I've smoked about 4-5 of these and none of them every seemed worth the $13 price tag. Pretty to look at, but def better smokes out there. Even when they were buy 2 get one free at my local shop I got 3 more and gave 2 away.

Nice review though, I have one left maybe I'll smoke it soon. If any BOTL want to try I can get them for $13.00 a pop.

Re: Camacho Liberty 2005

I bought five of these, have smoked two, and am saving the other three because if these cigars are not perfect, they come awfully close. Awesome cigar, I was not intimidated by the price, and I was not disappointed.

I just knew this was coming. Dougs was on top and my partially empty one is on the bottom. I just wanted the outer box for storing singles. Made a nice pic though.

Isn't it your anniversary?
