The Gran Habano #5 Corojo Rothschild Review

What a surprise. I saw these and for what ever reason, ordered 10 on a Cigar Monster. The Gran Habano #5 Corojo Rothschild. This little Corojo has a very oily wrapper and is a true gem. The review that I read said:

"Average Rating of 8.90 by 26 Customers - Gran Habano Corojo #5 Rothschild cigars present an attractive, well-packed vitola made with a robust blend of Nicaraguan and Costa Rican tobaccos seamlessly rolled in a dark, oily Corojo wrapper leaf. The smoke is creamy and earthy with notes of coffee, nuts and spice on a long finish."

Now, I usually read these descriptions and take them with a grain of salt, but this was right on. This cigar is amazing.

Country: Honduras
Length/Ring: 4 1/2 x 50
Shape: Rothschild
Wrapper: Natural
Strength: Full

I used a V cut on this stick and it has a sweet pre light draw. After I lit up, I noticed a deep puff of dense gray smoke. It starts out creamy and a little spicy. After about 10 minutes, my tongue was tingling, and a nutty coffee flavor came out. It held a beautiful ash, salt and pepper in color with a pretty even burn.

I have been smoking this stick or almost an 45 minutes and just started the last third and it is getting spicy again. The draw stayed true and the smoke is cool. I'm not much for small cigars, but this one has a big flavor, and a big finish. It took slightly over an hour to smoke. I can't seem to put it down, but I will. Funny, I wanted a short smoke beore going to bed. Oh Well.

Down to the nub, the best cigar for around $2.50 that I've smoked.

Great review Andy, it made me want to lite one up this morning. I have ordered a couple of bundles of these on the devil site, with no ring, is it one in the same? (they are still resting, I have not smoked one yet)

If it's a bandless bundle, then those are the "Fumas," i.e. short-filler trimmings from the regular #5 line. I've never tried them so can't comment.

To the OP--great review! I got 10 of these about a month earlier, and tried my first 2 weeks ago. For less that $2/stick I'll say I was more than pleasantly suprised.

A very fully corojo flavor, nutty and almost meaty. I didn't get any of the coffee flavor you mentioned, but I felt that is was a really great small cigar, especially for the money.

I hope to find another deal on these at some point, I'll definately pick up more.

How does the Rothchild compare to the larger #5 sizes? This is the only one I've had.

Great review and I'm sure these will be a welcome addition to your "must have" list. I've got three boxes, 2006, 2007, and 2008 resting quite comfortably in my coolers right now. Great smokes at an amazing price.

I have smoked the Gran Robusto, (6x54), #3 and #5. They are both pretty good cigars.

Re: The Gran Habano #5 Corojo Rothschild

I had one of the Rothschilds last week, from the same cigarmonster sale I believe. I had it 2 days off the truck, so it was a little damp and wanted to go out on me a few times, but I managed to keep it going without getting it too hot and it turned out to be a very nice little smoke. I have the other 4 resting in the humi, though I'm sure they will meet their fate sooner rather than later.

I keep a box of the Gran Robusto at all times, I also enjoy the Imperiales (6 X 60) too. I have a box of those as well. 65%rh is ideal for these I have found.

Great smoke, awesome construction, very affordable price point.

Re: The Gran Habano #5 Corojo Rothschild

I had a GH#5 robusto on Monday night with 4 1/2 months age on it. Unbelievably good. I can't believe I only paid $1.50 for it on CBid. This is rapidly becoming one of my faves.

I am currently enjoying one of the Imperiales #5 Corojo (6 X 60). I paired it with 10 yr. old Tawny Port and Rasberry, Caramel Dark Chocolate. Oh my God it is sooooo tasty.

I really suggest this type of pairing with that blend!

Cheers!

I think that it is my second favorite size. My favorite size is the Lancero. Smoked one tonight.
