Re: Casa Magna Robusto

The B&M located in Cumming/Dawsonville, has a few Casa Magna. I bought 4 sticks, and I believe there were only 6 or 8 left in the box after my purchase.

These are all amazing flavor, construction and overall experience. I guess with all the choices out including Tat black, DPG's 5 Vegas Miami, GOF, Oliva Serie V Maduro, and the list goes on, I just thought this would have been more with all the hype. Kinda like the Man O' War was.
You misread my post. I expected you to slam it but was pleasantly surprised that you didn't.

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

I could pick a dozen new cigars that top the casa manga, including the #2 cigar which blows it away..... CA is all about $$ anyway so im sure it wasnt cheap to get the number 1 vote

I can't recall seeing this in ANY CA magazine. There wasn't nearly as much ad revenue from Casa Magna as there are with MANY others.

It dosent matter what cigar is selected as the "Cigar of the Year" some are always going to say its about the advertising dollars, but no one making these claims can can actually back thier statement up with facts that prove them true. It may be true, or partially true... is that possible to be "partially true", but I imagine a lot of factors go into thier decisions.

Personally I was glad to see a five dollar cigar selected, I've smoked a couple Magna Robustos, and they are a very solid cigar...... as good as a Padron 80th, you decide. set down six Magnas and one Padron 80th and let me choose, someones going to be left with a great cigar the Padron 80th.... I'll take the Magna at six to one every time! If the Padron 80th had been selected as the cigar of the year I wouldnt have been surprised either... lot of great cigars out thier from 5 dollars and on up....

I had a torpedo yesterday
started out pretty good, but then it would not burn . wrapper would crack and the stick started tunneling. It was underfilled.
looked nice, tasted fine, but crappy construction.

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

I think that they are great smokes. Alot of people seem to be having issues with the fact that it was chosen as CA's cigar of the year. There are alot of things that go into that decision. Firstly, they did rate the cigar at 92 points. Which I believe to be pretty close, I would've gone about 90-91 but that is neither here nor there. Secondly, they evaluate availability, and finally price. This cigar just kept coming up through out their testing.

Are there better cigars out there, absolutely. But, we don't write for their magazine do we? Ultimately, and this is coming from someone who actually does write reviews for publication, the decision needs to be left up to the individual. Ratings are guidelines, nothing more.

At the end of the day, smoke what you like, like what you smoke. FWIW

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

Personally, I have no faith in CA Reviews and Ratings, as I consider them to be mostly Bull-Shit!

However, I'd still like to try a couple of these. So, if anyone out there has a couple of extras, or can pick up a few, I'd be happy to pay for them as well as S&H to my home! I can pay quickly via personal check, and I'll include a thank you hitchhiker as well!

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

I've been around too long to NOT take CA's #1 pick with a grain or two of SALT. Over the past ten or more years I can recall several of their top picks that sucked. BUT I have to say that the top 25 list has also brought to light quite a few reasonably priced sticks that REALLY were 90+ quality.

I'm another one who would love to try one...but can't find one online to save my life. My two area B&M's wont have these for years.

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

This is the reason I do reviews. I love your feedback on the cigars. As far as the one that was under filled and cracked. There is that occasional bad stick. I had one too. But it was because it must have been stored at 80% cause it could have been rung out.

I also take no creed in Anything Aficionado magazine. They lost their luster for me five years ago. But I do like the fact that they are rated with price in mind.

They are a good stick for the $4.80 to $6.10 range. For those of you that can't find them and want to try the Casa Magna, I just got my local B&M to carry them. I do get a discount from them, but the agreement from SAG says no discounts allowed, so I will have to see. The worst case scenario is retail. But I will buy a box and offer two or three per person for my cost plus shipping so that you all can try them. That is if you can't get them.

Keep up all your good feedback.

Andy

Andy - almost impossible to find in Canada. It's actually a lot more difficult to get decent NC here than CC. If you're willing to ship to Canada I would love to try a few sticks.

Thanks, David

Great offer Andy!

I'll take you up on whatever you pick up, except for the short 60RG stick!

Re: Casa Magna Robusto

Me and my friend both picked them up and smoked them tonight. When I seriously get down and analyze a smoke I like to do it with a friend. It kindve takes your own personal biases out of it when you can compare it with another. The Casa Magna's in our opinion after discussion was not a #1. We felt CA put his in as a number 1 becuase of its uniqueness of it's "colorado" wrapper and it's price. I will give kudos to CA for trying to appeal to the average budgeted smoker. (I have never liked how CA tried to make cigar smoking an elitist hobby for the wealthy)
