Comacho SLR Maduro Review

Well ive had this little guy in my humi for a few weeks, i just got over a cold so i haven't had a cigar in about two weeks since i wasn't feeling so great. So i got home from work last night and was itching for a cigar after defusing my latest PIF bomb. Considering the initial visual, physical and olfactory assessment i was expecting about 30 minutes of burn time and a rich maduro smoking experience. That was where things went all wrong..

I poured a pint of Rouge Dead Guy Ale put on a warm jacket and step out into the cool winter night, it had snowed on and off most of the day and a light flurry was falling. Many people would prefer to stay in side but i like the fresh crisp air after a snow fall, its something that should be appreciated and what better way then to smoke a cigar.

after clipping the end i toasted then foot and began, this was not as simple as it sounds since the construction of this little devil was confusing. it was triple capped on both ends but one end had an open nipple like the A.Fuente best seller, work of art ect., based on my experience with those i clipped the fully capped end and put fire to the other.

The draw was tight and smoke was low volume with minimal flavor but what flavor there was met my expectation. I was disappointed by the starting performance but attributed that to the shape. then the canoeing started, this was clearly being caused by the odd capping at the foot but took some work to correct. this is where things changed this thing was like a beast that had a match between its toes for a wake up call. The burn was perfect the draw opened up and delivered large amounts of smoke, the flavor was full and rich with every element normally part of a maduro plus a strong peppery spice.

After i corrected the burn i allowed it to cool off for a bit and topped off my pint, the dead guy ale was good and was going very well with the full flavored maduro. Now the cigar was burning very nicely and changing my opinion of it very quickly, despite the burn issues in at the start and steady smoking it was clear that this relationship would last longer then my estimated 1/2hr.

BAM like a 2 by 4 to the head the buzz hit me, not only was this little bastard full of flavor and surprises but it packed one hell of a buzz. so much in fact that i had to put it down go inside and have a seat. I think it was partially the beer but i was officially boarder line wreck off of about a pint of beer and slightly more then half of this small cigar.

Not only was it allot of flavor and punch in a small package but it willed this overly wordy review out of me. I really did not care for this smoke but it beat me into submission and i must say that it may not have been the right choice for the time but it certainly was a very nice smoke, teh finish was fairly long and excellent, if you want to experience a nice full power maduro give it a shot, i paid about 5 bucks for it..

Re: Comacho SLR Maduro

Nice review! I really like the SLR maduro. I don't usually smoke the little guy, but like the slightly longer Perfecto #2.

The lighting of a perfecto is always a bit dicey. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I get the same thing as you described. I have never been disappointed with the overall results from the SLR maduro.

Re: Comacho SLR Maduro

I like them (flavor, burn, shape, strength, and bold smokey output by mid-smoke) more than the other Camachos - and fear them (could smoke 3/day which is a bad personal plan for me).

They are an excellent match to the tempo and the smoke of back porch coffee roasting on weekends; alternatively, LFD-dbl ligero or gentler JDN-Antano fattie.

Re: Comacho SLR Maduro

I haven't really enjoyed any of the Camachos I've smoked, but I haven't had a maduro. I'll give one a shot. I like a smoke that has some kick.

The Rothchild I had was simply amazing, still have a couple resting. I haven't tried any of the other sizes, but this Maddie was spot on. Nice 45-60 minute smoke (yes, I'm that SLOW!!!)

Re: Comacho SLR Maduro

Picked up the 4 pk sampler at the local B & M and tried this one first. I really liked it, which is bad because I need another favorite cigar like I need a hole in the head.

Re: Comacho SLR Maduro

Just smoked one yesterday morning...a little too early for such a strong cigar. Gave me a really stong buzz. It was worth it though, they are tasty.
