I've smoked 2 of these so far - the robbie and the torp. While both were very good, I agree with Kev that the robbie is superior. The torp also had a bit loose draw. I found the smoke to be very rich and thick with a good woody flavor and a hint of dark roast coffee and balck pepper spice. There was an intriguing sweet lemmon oil on the finish. I smoked both right outta the shop humi and I'd rate them a solid B right now. I think they'll age well and since this is new it will be interesting to see if they tweak the blend a bit.

In sum, far better than the much ballyhooed CAO MX2, CX2 and Sopranos.

I have an update too. I have now smoked all of these. While I like them all, I find that the smallest one is the best. As they go down in size the taste gets better.

I don't remember the names they each have, but here's the pic Patrick posted. From left to right, they taste: Super Excellent, Excellent, Very Good, Good - Above Average. (Pardon the technical jargon there.)

After reading this review, I went to my coolerdor and pulled out the Virtuoso Encore 4 3/4 X 52
Flawless construction, nice firm with a nice dark oily sheen to it.
Cliped the cap, prelite draw had me thinking of the 59 exodus gold

Already in my mind the simularity of the 59 gold and the habanno 2000 wrapper, but thats where the simularitys end.
Found it to be a much more robust smoke, nice med-full smoke.
Nice white ash that fell at 1.5", perfect burn all the way through.
At the half way it became more of a full flavored smoke, with the coffee flavors becoming more prounced, still produced volumes of smoke very easily.
Smoked this one to a nub. (finger burning)
Overall a great med-full smoke, want to try the other sizes now!!!!

This is the best thread bump we've had in a while. It reminded me that I am down to my last Virtuoso, and need to go shopping.

I have only had one of these and that was a robusto size. I had it on the beach in Ft. Myers Florida. I thought is was very tasty but also very strong.

2. How the filler blend affects the taste as size changes. I've also read that keeping the filler blend tasting about the same it ain't a straight line ratio so various sizes will always have some flavor diffs.
I will agree with #2 but #1 is not correct. This is due to a well known mathematical law. Pi!! Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference divided by its diameter. This ratio, for any circle, is always the same - 3.14159. So regardless of the ring size the wrapper ratio is always the same. Another law of Pi is the area of a circle is pi times the square of the length of the radius, or "pi r squared": A = pi*r^2
This simpley means that the surface area of the burning end will always be in the same ratio to the ring size.

Now HM's logic is correct for a square pressed cigar, assuming that it were a perfect square. The larger the "ring size" the larger the ratio of filler to wrapper. Area = side squared: A=s^2
Assume the following square pressed cigars.
1" per side - 1 square inch of filler and 4 inches of wrapper. Ratio 4/1
2" per side - 4 square inches of filler and 8 inches of wrapper Ratio 2/1
3" per side - 9 square inches of filler and 12 inches of wrapper Ratio 1.33/1

So what does this all mean. Nothing!! We all know that different sizes of the same cigar taste differently. The blend of the filler may be different. The tightness of the rolling may be different. Maybe its because more air gets in a larger ring size. Maybe one size burns hotter than another.

Class dismissed.

Have a bit of time on our hands do we Rick? Take the numbers you surmise at your altitude, with the given lit end temperature and add 5000 feet of altitude. Does the burn rate remain consistant with the reduced amount of O^2 present, and consiquently, does this affect the flavor?
