Toraño Virtuoso Torpedo / Toro Review

Toraño Virtuoso Torpedo

Wrapper: Sun Grown
Binder:?
Filler: Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama

Storage: 70-72%RH at 75-80f

Construction: A smooth dark brown wrapper with only a small tiny circle of a lighter color. The Band on this differs from the production bands that I have seen though.

Pre-light: Light hints of roasted coffee and spice

Burn: Nice even burn, clipped clean on the Torpedo. I used a punch on the Toro, also punched clean.

Draw: That perfect bit of tightness that Toraño delivers every time. Consistent from beginning to end

Drink: Water

Smoking Notes: Hints of Coffee and a rich leathery and peppery spice throughout most of this cigar.

Overall Impression: This cigar starts off full to medium bodied and graduates to a full bodied wonder. The odd thing is that within the first half an inch it tricks you into thinking this is just another full bodied powerhouse. Then all of the flavors start kicking in. I really enjoyed this smooth but full bodied cigar. Toraño was nice enough to send me a few samples to review for their new Cigar. After smoking 2 of them, I liked it so much, I shared with Stan and Bill of Famous cigars.

Yes, they are tasty and a bit stronger then the Gold '59 Exodus, which were only medium to me. They've started to ship these, but only in small quantities.

I've smoked a couple of the largest size, 7x50 and thought it was very good.

However, Stan gave me a robusto on Saturday, which I smoked at the club. Like I said, the big sticks were very good. The robusto was awesome, way better.

I wonder why the short stick had more taste than the big stick. I would have thought it would be the opposite. Anybody know?

Sorry, no help here, they say that the larger size allows more room to
mix and blend flavors (as you well know) so it should be a bit better.
Better let HM answer this one.

I really like that you add the great pictures, Patrick, I think it adds a lot and helps us all visualize the flavors somehow (IMO). You got quite a few
'they look delicious' comments.

Great to have you guys back posting reviews again, after all the fun and
games, thats really why we are all here. Just want you to know that you guys are appreciated

We're back, Timmy!
Funny, Bill, my co-worker and I were having the same conversation last night. One of the guys gave us a torp and I had handed out some of the robusto's. We both felt the same way-the rob had more flavour and strength!

Depends on two things:

1. How much of the flavors *you* like are in the wrapper and the filler. The larger the sitck, the smaller the wrapper to filler ratio. If the filler has the flavors you want, then you'll tend to like the larger. If it's in the wrapper, then you'll tend to like the smaller.

2. How the filler blend affects the taste as size changes. I've also read that keeping the filler blend tasting about the same it ain't a straight line ratio so various sizes will always have some flavor diffs.

So in any line there will always be the "standouts". That's why certain smokes become famous and are always talked about.

A good examples is the CAO Criollo. The Pato is the only one of the criollo line I really like. Love that spicy criollo wrapper. The larger are OK, but the flavors I like are muted.

Another good example is the cuban Partagas. You hear a lot about PSD4, 898, Lusi and Shorts and not much about PSD1 or coronas. The blends hit it right in the former.
