Bobalu - Connecticut Shade - Yellow Label Review

(Photo is of Grampa Sherwood, rip. Poker Player, Drinker, smoker and true Cowboy.)

Manufacturer - Bobalu - Austin, Tx
Year - 2006?
Name - Connecticut Shade - Yellow Label
Size
Wrapper - Connecticut
Binder
Filler
Storage/Age
Construction - Average
Beverage - Water
Cut/Punch - Straight cut
Pre-light Observations - none
Burn - This stick burned pretty good and traveled little. I did have to re-lite it twice, might have been a little wet still, not sure.
Lit Oberservations - It wasn't a real tight roll before lighting, but was glad it didn't get all soft during the smoke. It stayed about the the same. This smoke was very easy to draw and it was Sooo easy to get a good mouth full of smoke. It was a mild cigar. Flavor was mild and pleasent. About an average connecticut. Not as disappointing as the other two from Austin.

Overall Observations - I'd rate this a "C". Nothing memerable. Wouldn't smoke one again, but could see others that enjoy mild, maybe enjoying this with some morning coffee or a hard shoot of nasty taquila.... HAhaha (that was a joke).

Always take off a little... test draw.... then cut more if needed. A good way to get a nice cut on the cap is to put your cutter flat on the table..... Stand the cigar, upsidedown into it....... snip!

that usally gives close to perfect cut, but if it still doesn't draw as you like, don't hesitate to snip more off.

Does that make sense?

I was going to smoke this... but being a Conn.... light smoke... I think I'll wait till tomorrow after work.

makes sense and I appreciate it. I was just wondering b/c I smoked a padron 6000 torpedo last week that had a little tighter draw than what I was expecting

This was the first Bobalu I smoked. Did this as "first cigar of the day" on Saturday.
Beverage: The ever-present soda water with lime.
Cut: Scissors cut, just nipping the cap off and staying away from the wrapper
PreLight: Easy draw when dry. Nice looking Conn Shade wrap
Burn: Was good the first half. Had to start touching it up after that.
Lit Observations: Draw was good. Got lots of smoke from this one.
Overall Observations: Long grey-white ash. Burn problems could have been
since the cigars were less then 24 hours off the truck?
Actually had a little peppery finish the last half, which is
unusual for a ConnShade?! Finish burned and tasted
better then the middle. Flavour, although mild, held up
nicely. I'm not a mild cigar fan, but trying to be
objective, I'd give it a "C"

Babalu, Yellow Lable, Connecticut Shade Wrapper.
Age:.............20 days, stored at, 69-71 F, @ aprox 63%
Appearance:..Nice connecticut, lite brown, small veins, firm feel.
Cut:..............single edge cutter
Light:............colibri fury torch
Ash:.............Light grey with darker center, fell at 1.5"
1st 1/3.........Very mild, almost sweet, loads of smoke, very easy to pass smoke through the nose without any burn, can even inhale the smoke.
Halfway.......nothing special, just a mild smoke
Last 1/3.......smoke became a little spicey, almost bitter, construction became spongy.

Overall impresion: I'd give it a C+, nothing special just middle of the road.

Smoked this one last night and was not impresed. Although there was plenty of smoke and it burned well with a good draw, the flavor was not enjoyable to me at all, a little bitter and harsh in my opinion and the smoke tasted as if it was too hot although it was not burning particularly fast nor was I puffing hard or quickly on it.

I'll pass on this one if offered one again. Maybe it needed more time in a cave.
