2004 Cuaba Divinos Review

Cuaba Divinos 4 X 46 Figuardo May 2004
Wrapper: Cuba
Binder: Cuba
Filler: Cuba

Construction: Oily, dark colorado wrapper with a couple small veins. Nice solid roll with no soft spots.

Prelight: Earthy tobacco, light cedar and sweet aromas. Leather, cedar and earthy tobacco flavors. Medium draw.

Burn: Lit evenly, fairly straight. Firm gray-white ash.

Smoking Notes: The Divinos starts out with rather mild toasty tobacco and earth notes. By ¼ the cigar warms and the flavors deepen to strong leather, cedar and earth notes with a bittersweet flavor and lemon oil tang on the finish. The smoke is quite thick and oily. Midpoint the cigar adds some faint bitter cocoa, sweet spice and herbal notes, but being a very short smoke stays about the same throughout.

Overall Impression: The Cuaba Divinos is not probably going to win a gold medal. They’re pretty straightforward from start to finish and mild-medium in body. IMHO, the Divinos takes at least 18 months to develop and reports of “no flavor” and “grassy” are likely due to young smokes. Personally, I think they’re a superb little smoke and they’re part of my short corona/figurado rotation during my yearly winter exile to the sun-porch.

Nice review, HM. Thanks for the heads-up on this little-discussed brand.

Nice review. I've only had one Cuaba, and was certainly underwhelmed. I'm not sure of the vitola, but based on your review, it was most likely too young. I may need to get a few to hang on to for a while.

If I ever grow up, I want to be just like HM!

I wish my tasters worked as well as his too. I think he gets a lot more out of a cigar than I do.

Thanks HM, I love to learn this stuff and I enjoy those smokes through you.
