Camacho SLR Rothschild Review

Camacho SLR Rothschild
Size: 5x50
Origin: Honduras (Jamastran Valley)
Wrapper: Honduran grown Pinareno (1959 Cuban seed from Pinar Del Rio)
Binder: Honduran Corojo
Filler: Honduran Corojo
Wrapper color: Colorado and silky smooth
Construction: Perfect
Date Sampled: 3-14-03

This cigar is med-full strength, but very full bodied. Pre-light aroma was your typical Honduran character with a metallic taste. Toasting aroma was very earthy with hints of leather and cedar. Strangely enough I picked up an undertone of saffron, but very little and in a good way. Draw was perfect throughout with a very even burn.

Flavor profile:

The first 1/2 I tasted a lot of leather, earth and coffee with undertones of honey and cedar, very robust and complex.

The second 1/2 it picked up in strength. The dominate flavors continued to be the leather and coffee, but still very complex. Smoked it to the nub!

This was truly a great Honduran cigar. Grown in the Jamastran Valley close to the border of Nicaragua. Said to be the closest in comparison the great soils of the Pinar Del Rio in Cuba.
I have to say of all the non-Cuban cigars I've smoked, this has to be the closest to a Cuban as I've ever had. Something about Puros from Honduras, Nicaragua and the DR, most of the time their good, but this cigar is great. And at $4-6 per stick it makes them even better.
