Fonseca Habana Seleccion Review

Fonseca Habana Selection

Size: 6 X43

Wrapper: Habana Criollo, some veining and tooth. Rich red/brown color, like a nicely tanned leather couch.

Filler: Dominican Ligero

Cut: Xicar Pre-light draw is easy but not too soft. Cigar is firm with no soft spots.

Light: Torch light with ease.

Burn: It burnt perfectly, with no touch ups needed. It did start to run a little on a vein but quickly corrected itself. Ash was a light grey color.

Taste: I really like this cigar. Full rich smoke with each draw. It starts off smooth as a baby’s bottom. It leaves a sweet after taste that makes me lick my lips. The 1/3 is rich. I can’t put my finger on it. Almost like nutmeg or (weird) eggnog. The 2/3 is a nutty/earthy flavor with a sweet aftertaste. It burns slow and cool. The ligero starts to take over the 3/3 and you can feel the smoke in the back of your mouth. Some spicy notes(not much) begin to take over slightly and the sweetness dissipates.

Overall: I would say this is a medium to full bodied smoke. Not quite full, but stronger than medium. There are many twists and turns to this stick, and I can’t quite put my finger on all of them. I wasn’t paying full attention to the smoke then I would notice a change. I don’t really like the way I described it above. I feel like I left something out of my description. I would rate a solid A because it was very complex at a great price and it burnt beautifully. I will definitely be getting more of these. I believe these are a CI exclusive. A

Excellant review!

I enjoy complex cigars when I've got the time to dedicate to it. I like being challenge me to draw out each little nook and granny about their profile.

Great write-up...I'm gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for them. I've had a few Fonseca's and always enjoyed them...but for some reason my eyes pass over them at the B&M when I'm there, although I'm not sure why

Great review! I haven't had one of these for a long time, can't remember when the last time I had one was. I do remember the spicyness though, darn good smokes. To me, the Fonseca is a LGC Serie R "light"

If you guys want a great maduro without the spicyness, try the Fonseca Serie F

Nice review. I will check the B&M and see if they have any. I admit, it was the eggnog that did it!!
