Rocky Patel Edge Lite Review

Rocky Patel Edge Lite Torpedo (6” x 52)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan and Honduran Ligero

Presentation: Golden Connecticut wrapper, brown band around the tip. Part of Thompson's Power of Ten sampler ($19.95) so this sample cost me $1.95.

Flavor: Starts out nicely with biscuity burnt pretzels and toasted oyster crackers. Transitions gradually to include more vegetal flavors of steamed green peas. Unfortunately, at approximately 50%, the cigar transitions to asphalt, burning / burnt asphalt driveway sealant, and other loathesome petrochemical odors and flavors. Difficult to hold the cigar in one's mouth as this allows the noxious vapors to travel up the nose. This is the second Rocky Patel Lite that I have smoked, and while they have not enjoyed any extensive aging time in the humidor (since I only just recently OBTAINED a humidor), I was really disappointed with the "asphalt" odor produced by the cigar. Leaves a lingering, ghastly "dirty ashtray" flavor in the mouth.

Smokability: Easy lighting, slow, even burning, easy drawing. Never even threatened to extinguish. No wrapper problems and so on. Just that loathesome, detestable asphalt odor.

Overall: Poor / Very Poor. D. I've read that Rocky Patel cigars are intended for more "seasoned" cigar smokers and I most definitely am not seasoned. Still, I have smoked a number of very high quality cigars and have taken an immediate dislike to the Rocky Patels.

Not recommended.

The Edge series of RP is definately a much differant animal then normal premies' and it can be one hell of a bad smoke if you're palette isn't developed yet. Considering giving your pallette more time and try 'em again, I think you'll be surprised at the differance you find.

Ofcourse, RP's are one of those line folks either like 'em or they don't.....

Regardless though, keep 'em reviews coming!

Never had an edge lite but I have had an edge..... Wasnt really as good as people make them but then again I did smoke it while I had a headache. It was strong but not Camacho strong or as strong as others have made them out to be.
I'm sure I'll try one out again in the future though, when I DONT have a headache.

Could be. The Rocky Patel Lites seem to often be included in Thompson's Power of Ten samplers and I actually rather LIKE the Thompson Power of Ten sampler, overall.

Ooops, checking back on my smoking notes, I see I failed to rip on the Rocky Patel Edge Lite as being a "malodorous mess" of a cigar.

The Rocky Patel Edge Lite was a malodorous mess of a cigar.

I'll stick up for this stick! I just had what was probably my 15th or so last week on vacation and didn't encounter any of the poor flavors mentioned. Like has been stated though, people either like the Edge's or they don't It happens, but, I would say definitely don't stop trying the RP lines - he makes a lot of my favs so don't let this one turn you off

This is why I love this hobby...if we all loved the same cigars, it'd get boring really quickly! Personally, I love the Edges, but I could see how they wouldn't appeal to everyone.

Same here - somewhere between 50 and 60 Edges, all variations on corojo, different vitolas, no Lite's though. Not opposed, just haven't gotten around to trying them.
