Occidental Reserve Churchill Review
Occidental Reserve Churchill (7” x 48.)
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade (199 Binder: Unknown Filler: Dominican Piloto, Olor, and San Vincente Presentation: Golden Connecticut wrapper, cream-colored foil band labeled “Occidental Reserve”. Part of Thompson's Power of Ten sampler ($19.95) so this sample cost me $1.95. Flavor: Mild, buttery flavors of toasted buttermilk biscuits. Lightly burnt white bread toast. Sort of one-dimensional, the cigar does not transition as wildly as other I have smoked. Still, the "dimension" in which the cigar remains is quite pleasant indeed. Smokes uniformly and cleanly, producing voluminous clouds of snow white smoke. Amazingly mild. No foul aftertaste deposited upon the palate. Smokability: Minor difficulties in lighting resolve to a slow, cool, even burn. Easy, effortless draw. No wrapper problems of any kind. No attempt on the part of the cigar to extinguish itself. Surprisingly long smoke for the relatively small ring gauge. Overall: Good. C+. I brushed my teeth and gargled with mouthwash after the Rocky Patel Lite and before the Occidental Reserve Churchill. Quite fine with a towering glass of Wurzburger Hofbrau Pilsener. Kind of made me crave a cigar, tho......

(In my best Elvis impersonation.) At the risk of being thought a pompous blow-hard ass-wipe, I DO have fairly vast experience in reviewing BEER. This translates pretty well to my new passion of fine cigars. But, in all honesty, there really don't seem to be as many variations in flavors in cigars as you might get in, say, a Belgian Lambic or Gueuze. So far.
