Romeo y Julieta Churchill en Tubo Review
Romeo y Julieta Churchill en Tubo (7" x 50)
Wrapper: Indonesian TBN Binder: Connecticut (USA) Filler: Dominican Republic Presentation: Impressive looking 7" stick, classic golden wrapper. Simple gold and black band stating "Romeo y Julieta - Dominican Republic". Packed in an aluminum tube with cedar liner. Part of my first regular cigar sampler from Thompson Cigar Club. This stick cost me $6.00. Flavor: Very mild and subtle cigar. Subtle flavors of sweet creamery butter, cedar and other soft woods, beach sand. Deep and desperate draws of the cigar fail to ignite or exploit any additional flavors, so the smoker is compelled to simply sit back and enjoy a long, smooth, mellow smoke. Very clean, bland, bordering upon tasteless. Odd, being that a deep draw produces voluminous clouds of blue-white smoke. Smokability: Perfect, flawless, slow, even burn. Moderate draw. Seemingly extremely well constructed. Simple, uncomplicated. Overall: Said to be a recreation of the Cuban Romeo y Julietas, even in my limited cigar smoking career I have sampled Cubans with a much deeper breadth of flavors. Nothing offensive, nothing memorable. Probably a good chomper for days out in the boat. Three more lurk in the humidor. Average to slightly above average. C / C+.

Alright now, I'm cool bashing the RP's and other sticks but now you've gone after RyJ...you trying to start a rumble here?
J/k bro. RyJ's were my first love so I feel inclined to defend 'em. Keep the reviews coming....believe me, many, many people benifit from these reviews. I know they've help guide me to a few new sticks..... |

I call the real strong, powerful cigars "horse chokers". I like a horse choker once in a while, but have grown to actually PREFER the milder, more subtle cigars. I am but a cigar nooby. I record what I taste, what my impressions are. I don't claim to be an expert in any way, shape, or form. I DO, hoever, enjoy the dialog with others about cigars. How else could I ever expand my horizons. One month ago, I had no humidor and no cigars. Look at me now. ![]()

Not to digress, but have you tried the RyJ Habano Reserves? If not give 'em a whirl. Smoked my first one last night and it was good. I'd put it up on the Med side of things.

I'm a big fan of R/J's myself. I think they're a top notch "old" cigar vitolo.

I now realize, that in my cigar nooby naievte, I was much, much too hard on this stick. And now that I have smoked them all up (gave one away) and they are all gone, I am very, very sad.
I did not appreciate the subtleties, the nuance, the gentle yet rich flavors of mild, yet supremely high quality tobacco. And now that I've smoked some real stinkers, I really long for a big old Romeo y Juliet en Tubo on a fresh autumn evening. I just have to bump up my review to a solid B+.
