Cusano 18 Paired Maduro Review

Cusano 18 Paired Maduro Robusto (5 x 50)

Wrapper: Broadleaf USA and Brazilain Maduro

Binder: Connecticut Shade

Filler: 18 year aged Dominican Oro, Dominican Cuban-seed Piloto

Drink: Capital Brewing (Middleton, Wisconsin) Autumnal Fire Doppelbock

Presentation: Deep golden-brown stick. Very veiny wrapper. Single, simple, cream and burgundy cigar band stating "Cusano Paired Maduro, Aged 18 Years". Part of the "Maduro Madness" sampler from Thompson Cigar, this stick cost me $3.00.

Flavor: I immediately knew I was in trouble. The draw of this cigar was very, very loose, and I got a mouthful of tobacco particles on the initial light. Curious blend of lightly floral, mildly vegetal tobacco. I needed to do alot of spitting to eliminate the tobacco particles lodged between my teeth. Washed the rest of 'em down with doppelbock.

Just an astoundingly disappointing smoke. I had smoked a number of Cusano cigars in the past and fully expected this to be an extraordinary smoke, what with the 18 year aged filler and all. Very, very light smoke, and not particularly flavorful.

The cigar improved somewhat as it approached the 50% mark. The draw tightened up and the foul floral character died down a little. Still, I cannot conjure up any wondrous descriptives to describe this smoke, because, in all honesty, there aren't any. Very, very hot smoking. Burning hot and not very flavorful. What a piece of shit.

Smokability: Smoked perfectly, other than being hot. No wrapper / binder / filler construction issues of any kind. Burned perfectly evenly, right up to the 30% point where it joined its brethren in the butt-can.

Overall: Very poor. D. I pray to god this was just a bad smoke because I have two more in the humidor.

I just GOT these smokes on 9/8/08.

They've only BEEN in my humidor for two stinkin' days.

If you adore these so much, I could bomb you with them.

What "other smokes that I've had problems with" are you referring to?
