Carlos Torano Virtuoso Crescendo Review

Carlos Torano Virtuoso Crescendo

Year Made - N/A Purchased single stick
Origin: Honduras
Length: 6.50 Ring: 54
Strength: Full (Fans of medium strength cigars should try this one)
Wrapper Color: Medium Brown/Dark Natural
Wrapper Type: Nicaragua
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan & Panamanian
Shape: Torpedo

Construction Comments: This cigar was firm and perfectly constructed with a very attractive brown wrapper.

Prelight aroma and flavor: Coffee and faint chocolate aroma with an espresso taste.

Burn: The burn was fine and mostly even, I never had to relight or burn off any part of it.

Drink: None

Smoking Notes: Man this cigar really hits the spot for me. I was surprised to see that it was a full flavored smoke. There was no pepper spiciness at all, just lots of creamy really rich smelling smoke. At the start I tasted spices like cardamom and coriander and that quickly changed to coffee, cocoa, leathery roasted spice. As I’m typing this the cigar is in the ash tray and I can smell a very different tobacco aroma in the smoke. It’s a great smell, just new and different to me. Maybe it’s the oddball panama filler in there. Hell this is harder than describing the tone of a guitar!

As I get down towards the end I'm tasting some mild pepper and mineral flavors along with all of the above. This is really a great smoke.

Overall Experience and Rating: I love it! This will be the second new addition to my cigar list. I will rate this as an “A”

WOOHOO!!!

I just got a couple of these yesterday, in the smaller Robusto size. I can't wait to try them now.

Great review, really helps me visualize the smoking experience.

Carlos Torano Virtuoso Forte (5-1/2 x 56)

Wrapper: Sun-grown Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Honduran / Nicaraguan / Panamanian Blend

Drink: Capital Oktoberfest, Capital Autumnal Fire, Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest

Presentation: Majestic dark chocolate wrapper with traces of sunset gold. Firm, solid feel. Simple band of white and gold trimmed with black stating "Carlos Torano Virtuoso", "Hecho a Mano" and "Familia Cubana". Part of a Weekend Sampler obtained from Thompson, this cigar cost me ~ $3.00.

Flavor: Starts out gracefully with flavors of milk chocolate covered malted milk balls, Ovaltine and sea salt (I believe this may be the "mineral" flavor that Big D was alluding to). This is a very dense, tightly packed cigar that burns very slowly. Although it is only 5-1/2 inches long, it took a good one hour and fifteen minutes (and three beers) to smoke. A bit tight on the draw, smoking it can lead to a degree of frustration, if you prefer (as I do), big flavorful mouthfulls of smoke. Attempt to "power-puff" it and it will punish you. Sit back, relax, enjoy a cold beer (or three) and be prepared for a delightful, chocolatey smoke with wonderful flavors of malted milk. The flavor of this cigar is absolutely extraordinary. Fabulous aroma. Deep, dark, rich tobacco flavor.

Smokability: The draw was a little bit tight. On the other hand, the burn was flawless, no re-fires or touch-ups of any kind required. Perfectly even burn until the cigar could no longer be held in the fingertips. Sadly deposited in the butt-can in the form of a 1 inch nub.

Overall: Absolutely outstanding flavor. Now that I know what to expect from the draw, I will not be as frustrated next time. The kind of cigar that has you frantically paging through cigar catalogs looking for box prices. I'll rate it A- only because of the draw. The flavor, is absolutely exquisite.

Of course, I have only two small humidors (packed to capacity) and one small "overflow box" (coupla sticks in there), and of course I've been threatened with several bombings ( ).

But I really, really, really enjoyed this smoke.

Got one left.

I'll take 'em if you don't like 'em.

I think I would have ka-splooged all over myself if I had gotten a five-pack of those for $13.00.

I've only smoked the Encore...and I tell ya, they are great. IMO, one the best the Carlos Torano line has to offer. Nice Medium-Full bodied smoke boasting rich flavor (cocoa, coffee, chocolate), consistant burn, and plenty of smoke.
