Arturo Fuente Seleccion Privada No.1 Candela Review
Arturo Fuente Seleccion Privada No.1 Candela (7 x 46)
Wrapper: Candela Binder: Dominican Filler: Dominican Drink: Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen Presentation: Green. A green cigar. There was no mention of Candela wrappers in the sampler I ordered from Thompson. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw two Arturo Fuente Seleccion Privada No.1 Candela (as identified by Thompson). But in the spirit of exploration and discovery, I chose last night to fire up one of these. Typical classy red, gold and green AF band simply reading "A. Fuente Gran Reserva Hand Made". Part of a Weekend Sampler from Thompson, I paid ~ $3.00 for this stick. Flavor: Starts out mildly with buttered, burnt cinnamon white bread toast, apple peel, nutmeg and clove. Curious vegetal flavor that I could not yet identify. Quite spicey. Transitioned gracefully and lingered a good long time in "oven roasted pumpkin seeds" (the curious vegetal flavor I previously could not identify). Deep draws of the cigar resulted in flavors of bitter burnt pretzels. While all of these wondrous flavors might seem quite enjoyable, the overwhelming vegetal flavor of oven baked pumpkin seeds became quite tedious after a while. I like pumpkin seeds as much as the next guy, but don't think I care for the flavor in my cigar. In fact, by the time I had smoked 60% of the cigar, I was tempted to toss it in the butt can. But I perservered and smoked another 15% of it until I got wisps of mothballs and urinal cookies, at which time I unceremoniously tossed the wretched thing out into the rain. YUCK. Smokability: Smoked just fine. A bit of uneven burn here and there quickly evened out by judicious application of the torch. Beautiful draw. Well constructed. Voluminous clouds of smoke. Don't think I'd ever care for another one, though. Overall: For me, not very enjoyable. C- / D+. I guess that's why they make hundreds if not thousands of different styles of cigars. There's something for everybody. I have another one of these wonders in the humidor if anybody cares to try it for themselves. YUCK.

I am not a fan of candelas either, the one I had was an Iguana. It was like smoking green paper. I used to like Thompsons until I ordered by phone the last time. That lady tried to sell me everything under the sun! And wouldn't take no for an answer. But like you Aces, I like their accessories, decent prices and their humis are great too. Got both of mine from them. But I am really likin Famous so far!
