Diamond Crown Maximus Stanford 90 Review
Construction:
Hardly any vein, solid, no soft spot Cut: Xikar Xi-2 Lighter: Colibri Double Flame Torch Pre-light: Effortless, easy draw, sweet caramel smell from the Cameroon wrapper Burn: The burn is razor-sharp. At times, I left the cigar unattended for about five minutes, it continues to burn without re-light. Smoke note: First draw, a little peppery. After 4 to 5 puffs, the peppery taste disappeared, replaced with a toasty, woody taste. It offers a clean, sweet aftertaste. First ash fell off at about half-an-inch point. The taste reminds consistent. Toward half point, I feel more of caramel and nutty taste. And the cigar is building up more flavor and complexity. At the last third, the flavor and complexity become alive. The taste of nuts, caramel, and sweet honey all coming out. Yet, the cigar remain slow, cool burning, it never gets hot. With about an inch and a half left, my tongue gets a little “sandy” feeling, this is my taste bud telling me this cigar is made from quality tobaccos. I nub it until my lips and fingers could not handle the heat. Overall experience and Rating: I started at 2:55 am, when I finished; it was 5:05 am. Over two hours of smoking pleasure. Good construction, aromatic, crisp and clean, sweet aftertaste, consistent through-out. A solid A. (Side note: This cigar retails $22.95 each, and that’s if you are lucky to find one. I paid $400 for a box of 20 that came with a nice leather box. Is this cigar worth $20, or, if an opportunity presents itself now, would I buy another one, probably not. I bought this box in November of 2007 in a cigar shop call Lake Tahoe Cigar inside Mont Blue Resort Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with my winning. )
