Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Maduro Review

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Maduro (Double Corona) (6.75 x 50)

Wrapper: Maduro

Binder: Dominican

Filler: Dominican

Drink: Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Amber Marzen

Presentation: Stylish and elegant cigar. Simple, yet classy band of red, green and gold stating "A. Fuente Gran Reserva" and "Hand Made". Full 4-3/4" wrapper of sweet cedar. Finishing touch of green ribbon. Gorgeous. Toothy wrapper leaf of dark chocolate brown and sunset gold. Purchased in a five-pack from Cigars International, I paid $5.00 for this stick.

Flavor: The instant I lit this cigar I knew I was going to adore it. Exemplifies what I have now determined to be the "classic" flavors of a Fuente Maduro cigar. Bitter-sweet dark German baking chocolate, fleshy almond nougat providing body and depth, finishes with just the slightest nuance of espresso and bitter nut skins. Mushroomy earthiness builds as the cigar grows shorter, the chocolate becomes more prominent and slightly more bitter. Spotlessly clean smoking. Wondrous complexity, particularly when complimented with a sweet German lager. Magnificent.

Smokability: Flawless draw, flawless, even burn. No problems of any kind. Light it up and put your lighter away, you won't be needing it.

Overall: Absolutely outstanding. A/A+. In my current state of cigar nooby-ness, I think these are the best cigars on the planet. I can't even begin to understand some of the reviews I've read on other sites, decrying Arturo Fuente cigars as "terrible" and "over-priced". I'd rather pay five bucks for one of these sticks than three bucks for some average or ordinary smoke.

Complete and utter cigar adoration.

(PS: I suppose I could learn to spell "maduro" properly. )

I usually smoke the sungrown version of this, but I did try the maduro once. There was so much tar building up at the tip and filling my mouth with the most god-awful tasting stuff, I had to pitch it long before half way. Perhaps I will give this another go in the future; I usually enjoy Fuente cigars.

Great review, as always. I wish I could pull all those details out of a smoke!

I will have to admit that I woke up the following morning with the most HORRENDOUS dry throat. It's possible that I was simply snoring all night, but the cigar tar build-up certainly didn't help, I'm sure.

I could barely choke down the Hoyo De Monterrey Excaliber and La Perla Black Pearl Morado that I smoked last night.
