Fuente God of Fire Carlito Cameroon Double Robusto Review
Fuente God of Fire Carlito Cameroon Double Robusto en Tubo (5.75 x 52)
Wrapper: Cameroon Binder: Dominican Filler: Dominican Olor Drink: Spaten Optimator Doppelbock Presentation: Colorado Claro wrapper, virtually vein-free, tiny blemish at midpoint of stick never became an issue. Tiny white dots on wrapper. Really classy red and gold band showing Prometheus, the God of Fire, perched on a mountaintop, being attacked by an eagle while bound with ropes. Secondary red, white and gold band stating "By Carlito - 2006". Packaged in a cedar-lined aluminum tubo. Part of a four-pack purchased from Thompson Cigar, this stick cost me $22.00. Prelude: It was a miserable, cold, rainy evening in SE Wisconsin, with a bone-chilling SE wind roaring off of Lake Michigan. After a warming dinner of venison, cheese and bean burritos washed down with several cold beers, I fell asleep in my man-chair while watching the Mike McCarthy Show, buried under my tiger-stripe binky blanket (surely gonna lose some man-points for THAT). I awoke at 7:30PM, and thought to myself "WTF am I going to do NOW", having fallen asleep so early, I surely would be up all night. Then it came to me, in a brief moment of clarity And so I did. Flavor: Starts out boldly with nuances of cinnamon and nutmeg. Ceylon cinnamon sticks swirled in apple brandy, mulled in a samovar with traces of charcoal smoke from the samovar gently blending in. Transitions somewhat less than gracefully to include enough Corinthian leather to impress Ricardo Montalban. (Yes, I know there's no such thing as "Corinthian leather", unless you want to smoke the interior of a '76 Cordoba.) Dry and leathery, not particularly complex, powerful, powerful smoke. I don't recall the other GOF I smoked being this strong (I gave the other two to my cigar buddy, in gratitude for the dozens if not hundreds of sticks he has shared with me). Dense clouds of bluish-white smoke with each deep draw. Impossibly, the cigar just grows and grows in strength and power until, near the merciful end, it brings to mind smoking a roll of asphalt roofing paper. Nearly gag-reflex inducing near the nub. I’ve always prided myself in having a cast-iron stomach and the ability to drink most men under the table. This cigar had me turning green near the end. Smokability: Hard to imagine a more full-bodied cigar than this. Absolutely flawless construction (other than the previously noted tiny wrapper blemish), flawless, even burn, rock-hard clods of white ash. Perfect draw. Typical Fuente cigar, in my experience. Overall: Now the $22.00 question. Is the Fuente God of Fire Carlito Cameroon Double Robusto en tubo worth $22.00? This can only be answered by the individual cigar smoker. While I don’t particularly regret buying them, I most definitely will never buy them again. Perhaps with ten years in the humidor this cigar would mellow out some. Based specifically upon the fact that I just purchased four five-packs of my favorite cigars for $60.00 (~ $3.00 per stick), would I give up seven of them to smoke one GOF? NFW. NFH.

Smoked one of these while camping out in August. Started off pretty well, with a good burn and good flavor. I ended up pitching a little more than halfway through as about just under an inch in it started tasting like ammonia/medicine. Paid $21 for it on Cbid. Way overpriced for a cigar. For what they want for them at the retail level it better be the best thing ever, sorry but I think I'd rather smoke a Thompson's house blend at least it wont cost me $20 to get sick of it and throw it away prematurely

I was FAR, FAR more impressed with the Fuente Don Carlos I smoked the other night than this GOF, and at 1/3 the cost. I would take three Don Carlos over one GOF any day.
Oh well, at least I got a cool tubo collection.

Your reviews are magical HR.
Since I buy most of my stuff on cBid, getting to the $20 per stick mark has not happened yet. Haven't even crack the $10 mark yet. Heck, I think $7 is the most I have gone (Tatuaje Miami, Camacho MMM, Gurkha Titan II, Ashton VSG). I like having a variety of smokes that fit my taste. Spending $22 on a cigar when I know I can get a laundry list of solid cigars for under $22 a 5 pack..... To me, the GOFs, Opus Xs, '26s, etc etc, are great cigars to get as gifts. I believe I will be getting some '26 maddie No 2s from my Dad this Christmas.

Thanks for the review.
At least you get an aluminum tubo with the Double Robusto. For the price, these should all come in a wooden coffin like the 2004 (their first release) release. For some stranger reasons, all subsequent releases come with plastic cello only, with the exception of the Double Robusto by Carlito and the Robusto by Don Carlos, and yet, you get 8 in a wooden box instead of 10, not including 4-count cardboard box.
