2008 Tatuaje Black Label Corona Review

2008 Tatuaje Black Label Corona 5.625 x 46

Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

Storage: 63 – 65 RH at 63 – 68 F.

Construction: Rumpled medium brown wrapper with a couple small veins and fold-over shag foot. Solidly rolled with no hard or soft spots.

Prelight: Aroma of cedar, hot spices, and dark tobacco. Taste is very spicy, leathery. Medium draw.

Burn: Lit evenly, wavy burn. Dark grey and white ash.

Drink: Zaya 12 yr old Guatemalan rum.

Smoking Notes: The cigar lights with a punch in the mouth of black and hot pepper spice - a warning that this is gonna be a bruiser. There must be a ton of ligero in the foot. By 1/4 the smoke has thankfully calmed a bit and is starting to put out some great dark espresso, leather, cocoa and earthy notes, still with the heavy black pepper spice on the finish. Thru the 2/3 point, the espresso, leather and cocoa flavors continue to build while the pepper lessens a bit and a sweet note adds in. At 2/3 the cigar darkens a bit to heavy earthy tobacco, espresso and dark bitter chocolate.

Overall Impression: A solid A. The Tatuaje Black is a very powerful smoke reminiscent of a Bolivar Gold Label. They were a bit of a disappointment whne first released around May as they started off like gangbusters but then just died. Must have been in a sick period because 7 months later these babies will kick your a$$.

Sounds like a great smoke. The rum you had with it sounds good too

Professionally written review. I've never had a Tat. Will have to try this one.

Great review. I was fortunate to get one of these about a month ago. Spot on review (spicy, dark/bitter chocolate). I am sure my pallet is not as good as Heavy's, but I was able to pick up these obvious tastes. And yes, this baby kicks your ass right off the bat. Don't know how much it really lets up, I think you just get used to it

These are very hard to find. This was a gift from a friend who works in AC and has a pretty extensive cigar collection. Maybe Heavy has a link/store where you can find these.

Great review. I wasn't very impressed with these at all at first, but revisted one with about 5 months on it and WOW! I can't wait to see what a year will do to these.
