Padron 40th Anniversary 1926 Torpedo Review

After a sad realization that I have not had a good quality smoke in
over 4 weeks, I decided it was time to end that trend. I figured I'd
better do it right and have a nice quality cigar. I've read a lot of
hype about how great the Padron 1926 Anniversary line is, so I decided
I'd go with one of them. I'm in the process of finishing up tiling my
back porch so I had to move some patio furniture back onto the porch
for this adventure. And why not have a nice glass of gold tequila
while I'm at it too?!
At first glance, I could tell this was going to be a great smoke. The
construction was beautiful, and the dark wrapper led me to believe
this was going to be a great maduro. The smell immediately reminded me
of nicely aged tobacco and with hint of coffee. By now I was truly
excited to try this smoke. I had my glass of tequila ready, my cutter,
and lighter on stand by and my laptop in my lap. I used my plain jane
cutter and took the end off about 3/8 of an inch, enough to get a nice
draw. I did a test draw before I lit it up and man was it nice. No
restriction at all but not too easy that I felt as if I was sucking in
through a straw; in other words….it was perfect! I did a test light
with my lighter, and much to my surprise, it was empty! I guess after
sitting for 4 weeks it didn't want to hold any butane. I decided I'd
go ahead with lighting this stick the old fashioned way, with some
matches. Let me tell you, lighting a cigar with matches has never been
any easy task for me, but for some reason I lit this one right up, no
problem.
My first impression was this cigar had a strong earthy taste to it,
not over powering but prominent. There was a slight hint of coffee in
there too but I had to give it a few puffs before I could identify
what taste it was. What caught my eye right off the bat was the smoke.
The draw was perfect and the amount of smoke that came with it was no
disappointment either. In my experience with most cigars, the smoke is
either white or slightly off white, but this cigar was different. The
smoke had more of a grayish hint to it. I'll go ahead and blame that
on its great full bodied taste. As the cigar progressed the earthy
aroma and taste backed off a little and mixed nicely with a nice
chocolaty taste. I'm not much of a chocolate fan, but for some reason
this was appeasing to my taste buds. The last two inches intensified
in taste slightly, also adding a bit of spiciness. It was never
overpowering but this is when you could truly tell this was a full
flavored cigar.
The burn has been relatively even throughout the cigar. You can see
in the pictures provided that its not a perfect ring all the way
around the cigar but its close. We can blame that on my amateur match
lighting skills. The cigar did not become warm to the fingers until
right up against the band, and still at that point it was only
slightly warm.
After completion of the smoke I noticed one other thing. Upon ashing
the cigar the ash fell off in large chunks and continued to stay
intact while in my makeshift ashtray. We can probably attest this
trait to the superb construction of this cigar.
Being that this was my first cigar review, I was a little nervous as
to what some of you might think of my work. I hope that this review
may give some of a general idea of the complexity and great taste of
this cigar. I must say it was rather enjoyable to sit and analyze a
cigar as I smoked it. This may be the start of many great reviews to
come.

that is a sweet smoke I hve one of these in my humi but I doubt it will be there for much longer

The Padron 1926 #2s are considerably cheaper and pretty much the same dimensions. The tobacco is the same too. This is why I prefer regular 1926s over the 40th Anniversary.
