I know some of you really enjoy getting into all of this, and there are times the rest of us just want to communicate how we feel about a cigar and why. Might I suggest the
"Teel's Amateur Cigar Rating System" or TACRS (pronounced tackers): Appearance 0-1 : 0 - unacceptable, 1 - acceptable (I personally presume most cigars on the market will get a one. I just can't see ugly sticks continuing to be widely sold.) Draw 0-2 : 0 - way too tight or loose (plugged or like a straw), 1 - tight or loose, but not to the point of making it a 0, 2 - perfect (What's that mean? I know it when I draw on the cigar.) Burn 0-2 : 0 - has to be relit or straightened more than twice or burns severely slow or fast, 1 - has to be relit or straightened once or twice while rate of burn is "ok", 2 - never has to be relit or straightened and rate of burn is just about right. Construction 0-1 : 0 - comes apart in almost any way (burn and draw have already beaten the cigar for poor construction for internal factors), 1 - no problems with the cigar coming apart. Flavor 0-3 : 0 - couldn't finish it due to the taste, 1 - not really enjoyable, but not bad enough to throw away, 2 - good enough to make you want to buy more, 3 - awesome flavor that makes you REALLY want to buy more. Overall 0-1 : 0 - didn't really enjoy the cigar, 1 - enjoyed the cigar. Example: Appearance = 1 Draw = 2 Burn = 1 Construction = 1 Flavor = 2 Overall = 1 Total = 8 Of course, it is perfectly acceptable to add additional comments to give a little more detail, but generally anything less than 7 is a "non-renewal", a 7-8 is ok for yard/golf cigars, a 9 is great for an everyday cigar, and a 10 is a real keeper. This may sound simplistic to many, but I think it will work for many also. I know, for one, that I would NEVER tackle the ICRS or the modified version. They're just too complicated for me.
