Gurkha Legend, My Humble Review

All right fellas, I'm a new guy to the club, and I've been smoking cigars for just about ten years now, so I'm also a relative novice. That being said, here goes...
I bought a bundle of Gurkha Legend Robusto's about 4 months ago and let them sit in a humidor until today; I've heard a lot of hype on this smoke and I wanted to make sure this baby was hydrated before I took her for a spin.
-Initial thoughts: Good looking stick, the wrapper was uniformly dark and smooth, not an overly toothy or veiny appearance. It also passed the "thumb-index finger press test" without a hitch. These are obviously well made cigars. Now the band... I've read some reviews that talked about a psycho with a machete. I think it's kick-ass! I asked myself, "does this guy look like he knows how to pick out the good plants, cut them, and roll them into a good cigar?" The answer is yes, and he looked like he was daring me to call him on it. I did. I punched the cap and was pleased with the pre-light draw; I was ready to light.
-The first 1/4: Spicey! I was pleased that there were no draws that had the charred or harsh taste- too many cigars start that way. It burned well and drew perfectly. The smoke was plentiful and thick.
-The middle: The smoke maintained its spice and I got some hints of chocolate before it hammered my palate with strong hints of cherry. The middle of the cigar was very complex and full. I looked down at the guy on the band, "keep smoking candy-ass!"
-The finish: The spice definetly intensified and the chocolate all but went away. However, the cherry tastes never left, and sharp licorice displaced the chocolate. Needless to say, I was enjoying every long draw and smoked this puppy until the flames all but touched my tongue.
-Closing thoughts: Hell yeah! Mr. Hansotia hit a home run with me on this smoke! I am a big fan of medium to full bodied smokes, and this was it. It never overpowered me, but definetly gave me what I wanted in a full smoke for about an hour. I am also a fan of the padron thousand series (the anniversary series goes without saying) and the montecristo afrique line. I hope this review helped!

Good review there..... I'll have to add this one to my try list. From your write-up... it's 'write-up' my alley.

Re: Gurkha Legend, My Humble Review

Nice review and spot on. I really like the Legends best of all the Gurkha's. The toro is my fav size.

The wrappers on these rival anything from Fuente or Padron.. just plain elegant.

Re: Gurkha Legend, My Humble Review

The Gurkha Legend is a fine smoke. I knew nothing of them when I bought my first fiver on Cbid. I was pleasantly surprised upon smoking the first one. My thoughts pretty much parallels your review. For the price on Cbid, they're keepers.

Re: Gurkha Legend, My Humble Review

I have never seen these at a B&M...I have to get them online. Anyone have a local that carries them?
Only Gurkha's I have seen locally are the Master Select and Ancient Warrior.

My B&M in Raleigh has some Gurkha, but not the Legends. If you do find them, and they're at retail, you're going to pay dearly for them. Cbid is the only way to go for Gurkha, IMO.
