Monte Cristo Club Cabinet #30 Review

Many of you saw the deal that JR Cigars offered for a free Oasis XL and a box of Monte Vintage 93 club cabinets. I went for it. Let me first say that I am overall pleased with the deal, the oasis is great, but the cigars are just OK... I wanted to like the cigar, it is a good looking cigar that is virtually flawless in appearance. That being said, it ended up being a fairly mediocre smoke. The draw was loose to "ok" at best. It was not bad enough to cause any tunneling, but it was definetly loose enough to be fairly annoying. The cigar started out relatively peppery for a monte, but not in a good spicy way, just a plain old peppery way. Some of you may like that, I guess I don't! The cigar then mellowed out into a very mild smoke that was not unpleasant by any means, just kind of boring... The only real taste that I could find was of cedar, and I could only get that with nasal exhales. I was patient for the taste bomb that I was sure was coming, this beauty can't be this plain could it? It was. I can't say that I disliked this cigar; I guess I was just dissapointed because I expect more from montecristo. Two of my top five smokes come from the monte line, but this club cabinet is very forgettable for me. This may be a good gift item for your buddies who only seem to smoke when they are at your house! It is a sufficiently mild and smooth smoke for my golf buddies, but it is too plain for me.

I bought a box of these a coupla years back & they took almost 2 years to come around. I smoked one recently & it was quite nice. Unfortunately, I had either smoked or gifted most of this box by the time they came around.

I was really hoping someone would say that... I didn't hate them by any means, but I guess I just wanted more out of them than they could give right now. I'll let 'em sit for a while.

I've got some No. 10's that have been sitting for about five years. These are my top rated cigars. Almost perfect in every category that I use to rate cigars. On the other hand, I have not been equally impressed with the No. 40, No. 50 or No. 60 cigars that I have tried. Good, but not excellent. These things need to sit.
