St. Luis Rey Serie G Natural Rothchilde Review

St. Luis Rey Serie G Natural Rothchilde

Country: Honduras
Length/Ring: 5 x 56
Shape: Robusto
Wrapper: Dark Natural
Strength: Full

It was a beautiful day and I needed to get out of the office. A new tabac opened in town and the guys rent from a friend of mine so I went over to check out their store and the walk-in humidor. Fairly generic selection and the prices were status quo…..they specialize in singles and are not going to sell boxes…..so they are getting full-boat for a single….. Anyway, I decided to try something new and never tasting a St. Luis Rey I opted for the Serie G NR.

It’s a beautifuly constructed stick. Smooth and blemish free upon visual inspection and a nice flavor upon cool tasting. The outside consited of a nice oily, double maduro Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The St. Luis Rey Serie G Natural Cigars feature a whopper of a blend of Honduran, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan tobaccos inside…..it really kicked my butt.

Lighting this beauty was easy and the draw was nice. I used my bullet as opposed to cutting but I could tell that the cap would succomb to a nice snip much like most of us have in certain other ways.

The smoke that drew out of this Serie G was a nice pearl color and it seemed to linger for a moment and then thin out and disappear as opposed to just hanging and getting stale. The flavors were earthy and spicey. I wasn’t prepared for the power of this leaf but got used to it ater a while. Being a 5” cigar it burned evenly for about 35 mins without fail.

Overall I would give this cigar an 8.9/10. There were no real issues and it was very enjoyable with the exception of being caught off guard on the strength of the stick. I bought 2 and will age one in my humidor to see if it mellows. If you get a chance you should try one because it’s a bit different and since it kicked me in the head I would be interested in knowing if anyone else had a similar reaction.

All Hail the Breathren of the Leaf……Long Ashes

Nice review Josh. I've never tried the Serie G Natural, but I really enjoy the St. Luis Rey Reserva Especial Maduro. I'll have to look for some of these and give them a try.

I've got three of those little beauties sleeping in my humi. I picked them up in a sample box at my B&M. Now I'm getting anxious to try them. I think I'll like them.

Nice review. IMO, the SLR serie G's are super cigars and at a great price range. Picked up a box of the SLR Serie G maduro for $70 bucks and 1/2 way through the box I've been thrilled with 'em

Josh, I smoked one of mine yesterday and your's is an interesting review. I also used a punch cutter (first time ever) on mine. It drew a little tight until I stuck my ball point pen into the hole (I was doing a crossword puzzle). Then it was perfect for the rest of the smoke.
You are certainly on target concerning the construction and burn. Mine could only be described as perfect. Good amount of smoke as well. I thought that the stick was quite flavorful and certainly a very good smoke but it seemed quite milld to me. That's the note I made on the back of the band. I didn't get the punch that you experienced. Regardless, they're worthy of another purchase to keep some in my humi. I still have 2 left and I'll let them sleep for a while. Like so many others in waiting, the anticipation of smoking them is sweet torture.

The SLR line is fantastic in my opinion. The Serie G is an exceptional cigar.
