El Rey de les Habanos - torp Review

Cigar: El Rey de les Habanos Torp
Size: ~6" x 52-54 torp
Wrapper: nicaraguan*
Binder: nicaraguan*
Filler: nicaraguan*
Price: $6 (after WA state taxes)
Flavor Body: Medium
Nic Stength: Medium
Smoke time: 90min
Date: 2006-04-06
Overall score: 4.0/5.0

Another of the many fine cigars being created by Jose "Pepin" Garcia. These don't seem to be well distribuited, as I've only been able to find them at my local B&M (http://www.raincitycigar.com/).

There is no surprise who made this cigar. It's definate Pepin from the very begining. The same nose/back of the throat spice is there from the start. Good flavor, good burn. But the body was less then I have come to expect from Pepin. Medium, at best. Lots of strong leather flavors dominated the smoke from start to finish.

Overall, it was good, but not great. As Pepin's stuff goes, it's on the low end of the price scale, and it shows. The roll and wrapper are beautiful, but it was underfilled, and got soft after about the first inch. This is the second of this line that I've smoked, the first being a few months ago, right after they were released. I remember the first being much stronger in flavor. Either I remember it better then it was, or they don't age well.

* I'm guessing. I haven't been able to find anything on the web about this specific release. The shopkeeper didn't know much about them, other then where they came from. He started carrying them, because he liked everything else the Pepin has created.

Nice review. I used to live in White Center and took the Corson/Michigan street exit to get home. Rain City cigar was a favorite stop.

I live in White Center. Same reason Rain City is one of my favorite stops. BTW, my wife loves the picture.
