Ovation Maduro by alec bradley Review

Smoked this one last night after work with Heineken and a splash of cognac, I received it in a PIF a few months ago, it has been resting in my humi tempting me. the wrapper is exactly what most maduros look like, dark slightly oily and some tooth.. over all a well constructed appearance and feel also smells rich and tempting.

I clipped it and the pre light draw was perfect. Toasted the foot, being out side the fragrance of the toasting drifted away undetected. it light right up and delivered thick rich flavorful smoke, all the usual maduro flavors where there but it seemed hollow, like it just wasn't a well rounded cross section of flavor but at the same time it was still a maduro.. there was little to no spice, some coffee and coco, toasted nuts but they all lacked a solid creamy consistency that I prefer the burn was perfect the whole way and the construction was good.

I smoked it to a nub, it wasn't an intensely pleasurable smoke but I cant really knock it for the price which in my case was a trade but they are fairly cheap..

the onyx, ryj reserve maduro, avo #9 maduro, A.fuente château maduro, and camacho SLR maduro are all much better. so with all of those other choices on the market it would be hard to return to the ovation maduro by alec bradley. Certainly not a bad smoke, worth trying if you can get them for a deal but not worth going out of your way for them..

Re: Ovation Maduro by alec bradley

Good review.

I bought a box of these last fall for an everyday maduro smoke and they are much as you describe. The price was the reason I went for them. For a few bucks more, I went over to a Patagas Black. It's not a stellar smoke but does have more substance than the Ovation maduro. I also bought a box of MX2's when I feel the need for a genuine Kick-A$$ maduro.
