La Pearla- The Black Pearl Review
So I am new here- this is my first post.
I am *NOT* an experienced cigar smoker: A list of the cigars I have had- I started with phillies/swisher sweets, then on to acids/drew estate white rabbits and cojimar flavoreds. This is my first serious tango with a real cigar (although I have had puffs here and there of others), so forgive my greeness and probably crappy review. The cigar was firm, with some give---possibly not enough as it may have been a tad too dry. The wrapper was firm- no tears or blemishes. I am pretty knew to properly lighting cigars so I had some uneven burning problems but the ash was very firm and usually held for over an inch. The flavor itself was very peppery. My palate is not experienced or developed by any means- so please no flaming. I didn't find it to have many flavors although occasionally I picked out some creamy sweetness in the smoke. The smoke was not harsh at all though and the draw was decent. Very smooth and very peppery flavor. It went well with my southern style sweet tea. Overall I enjoyed the cigar but I am not sure I would have without the sweet tea. I hope to continue my adventure in trying new smokes and finding what is good and what is not. |

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
Nice review. I have a Black Pearl in the humi somewhere. It's had plenty of rest. May have to fish it out and give it another try.

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
Great review!
Do you know if you smoked the Black Pearl Cobre or the Black Pear Rojo? I smoked a 5-pack of Black Pearl Cobre a few weeks ago, and I noticed the same sweet/pepper flavors. It was an excellent cigar. |

Great job on your first review. Keep trying new cigars while noting the different charicteristics of each and you will be well on your way to developing a good palate.

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
I have some Black Pearl Rojos, they are very good if let to rest for a bit. I bought one about 3 months ago from my local tobacco store and liked it a lot; they keep their cigars well humidified and are smokeable right off the shelves. The one I had was great. So I bought my own box, and the first one outta the box wasn't like what I had earlier. Two months later and I had one last night, which was more like what I had bought from my local shoppe.
They are a good smoke with strong pepper within the first inch, then leather, then a caramel/vanilla taste, and spiceiness throughout the smoke. There is a sweetness you pointed out which kicks in during the second half of the smoke. I say let em rest before smoking it again, you will be surprised ![]()

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
nice review!!
since it sounds like your just starting to transition from pseudogar to more natural tasting cigars. It may take a while for you to be able to identify the more subtle flavors produced by taobacco blends as opposed to the infused flavor that pretty much slap you in the face and say im vanilla or strawberry or what ever.. its would be best to start with mild cigars but a variety until you start to identify these flavors that exist beyond spice or leather.. try some maduros, like the onyx reserve belisco, the dark wrapper may be intimidating but the flavor is chocolatey. A. fuente short story is a nice friendly smoke.. the AVO #9 either coneticut or maduro wrapper are good friendly cigars, very creamy flavors.. CAO criollo Pato is nice medium to mild body cigar but not over powering a good blend bordering on maduro flaovrs .. then there are sweetened tips cigar like the baccurats (sp) that have a fairly mild but more regular cigar flavor then then infused cigars but a slightly sweetend tip.. when i was first starting to take my cigars more seriously i smoked a AVO XO intermezzo and thought it was terribly spicey and aweful but after an hour i began to crave the spice, now i dont really find them to be that spicey just a nice lively flavor.. so for me the transition from smooth and mild to more full body or spicier was definately a transition to become more aclimated and appreciate the complexity of some of the more full bodied cigars like the ashton vsg or opus X.. |

I assume the Rojo's have a corojo wrapper (red leaf). Mine was not red so I am thinking it was the Cobre. |

Thanks for all of your information and tips- my local H-E-B grocer actually has a humidor and I noticed that they had some Baccarats, so I may pick one up. ![]() |

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
These babies have loads of flavor in them. Don't know how much a stick cost though.

Re: La Pearla- The Black Pearl
I believe that they are pretty reasonably inexpensive. I think 3.00-4.00 bucks maybe?
By the way I did some research and I believe the Rojos have a Criollo wrapper, not a corojo wrapper as I stated earlier. I am pretty sure it was a cobre. Sorry that I don't know much about this cigar, but my friend picked it up in a sampler- I read reviews and smoked it without much more research. :s |
