Rocky Patel Decade 10th Anniversary Review

had a poll last night to see what i should smoke, and the RP Decade won, but i ended up watching the Michigan vs. Notre Dame frozen four game and didn;t get to smoke it. So now, i;m doing a review. I have not fully developed my palate, so bear with me. i wished to have pictures, but my camera has broken and i;m in the process of fixing it

Pre-light:
Construction: no flaws, neither firm nor spongy
smell: slight cedar, little hint of hay/grass
draw: good air flow, no tingle
taste: intriguing...not much spice

post-light:
smoke: plenty, smells pleasant/
draw: fantastic. not trying to hard and have a great intake. (reminds me of Padron 26 and 64's, in terms of perfection)
taste: 1/3: slight hint of spice, mostly creamy/smooth
2/3: woah spice! that slight hint picked up! still smooth, slight cedar
3/3; flavors persist. still spice, cedar mellowing out, getting slightly
harsh, but i think thats because i smoked it a little fast.
burn: even
ash: gray, gorgeous, long. fell without me tapping it falls off with a
slight tap...not cool

afterthoughts:

fantastic smoke, little pricey for an everday for me (poor college kid), but has just enough flavor, a perfect draw, and a little bit of a punch, but nothing that'll know ya out. on a 100 point system, i'd say around an 87-88 would suffice for me. its advertised as a full body smoke by CA, but i;d say more like a med-full.

i;d recommend this for anyone!

I have to say it is a fantastic smoke I don't know about the 95 CA gave it but I would say 90-92

Good review about the Decade. I find the torpedo and robustos are more complex thatn the toro. I just love the Damn things!

The Decade just does not rock my boat, I like the ITC 10th better. The decade is a good smoke, a shade better than average, but the flavors were just not there for me...

I agree with you Brent. I bought them both at the same time and I thought the ITC 10th was a better cigar. Maybe I should try them again.

Maybe you are right, I'll have to pick up some of the Decades and let them age...

Yeah- it took me two sticks to decide, but the Decade seems (for me) to be right in between good and great. I like how it draws, the flavor is great. Tastes like smooth caramel. MEDIUM strength indeed, and that might be the reason its not a FULLY great cigar. I do like how the double yellow bands look so purchased some for my humidor.

I've smoked them back to back in the torp and I believe the ITC 10 have a tad more flavor. In talking with the Rocky Illinois rep the ITC 10 was to be the origional Decade and Rocky made a last minute blend change and came out with this Decade of the two, my choice is the ITC 10 but everyone has different tastes and they are both very good. by the way Neil keep up the excellent reviews. (Pretty good for a poor college kid - its ok for me to call you kid cause your still young enough to be my son...not that I am claiming to be your Dad or anything...you gotta be carefull now a days....LOL)

haha....i try to be very accurate in my reviews, but i;m still learning how to refine my pallet. i tend to really get a taste for cedar, earthiness, hay/grass, and spice/pepper. i;m still learning to taste the others.

i need to try thise ITC, but i can;t find it anywhere. if anyone has a few i';d be willing to trade
