Montesino Diplomatico Review
Well, here we go; my first review. I've been trying to do a lot of reading and keep my piehole mostly shut, but this was a really good experience I wanted to share.
I had a pretty crappy weekend - had to work on my birthday (which I legitimately think should be against the law) and ended up getting pounded at work. Then I came home this evening and had to cut the grass (which should also be against the law), as it's supposed to rain for the next week. So I wasn't in a particularly spectacular frame of mind. I took this cigar (Maduro, by the way; 5.5x42) out on the deck and checked it out. All right looking; nothing to write home about. The only bad spot of the whole experience was that the band had stuck to the wrapper and tore out a very small chunk when I removed it, but it was all smooth sailing after that. If you're hoping for a detailed description of the various characteristics, you're gonna have to wait until someone a little more sophisticated smokes one, because all I can tell you is that it was a damn good cigar. The taste started out good and got better. It had a nice draw and burned evenly. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. I smoked it down to about an inch and then tossed it when it started to get hot. The experience was even better when I consider that I paid $3.05 for this baby. I've smoked significantly more expensive cigars that I enjoyed significantly less. I've got two more in my humi, and if I enjoy them as much as I did this one, I'll definitely be picking up a box.

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
I do not see a lot of talk on this brand. I have had several in the past and am now wondering why I have not gotten more. I do believe that I have a Montesino of some sort in the humidor that I should look for to smoke tonight. The ones that I have had are good well prices smokes. Not real complex but far from boring. Thanks for reminding me of them. And I have too had problems with at times they use a little too much glue on the bands, but I can live with that.

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
I have a box of the Diplomatico Maduros in my locker at the cigar club. Always a consistent, good smoke.
Plus they are cheap enough to hand out to the casual smoker. ![]() |

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
Ive never had one of those, but ive had a couple Nepolean Grands in the past. The first couple were good. After about 5-6 months in the humi it must have turned. The last one i had (about 2 weeks ago) was just foul.
The price is good and ive only ever had a problem with the brand once. Here is to hoping i just got the bad stick in the bunch last ![]() Ill definately have to check one out as per your reccomendation. I never seem to know what i like anymore until i smoke it, My tatses have changed so radically over the short time ive been smoking (about a year). |

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
I probably haven't had one of these in a long time, probably because - if memory serves me correct - I found them to be a bit on the mild side and a fairly straight forward smoke. Nevertheless, for the price and if you are in the mood for a milder smoke I'd recommend them even if they don't really match my current tastes. My recollection was that they had great construction, nice burn and draw. It would probably make my list of milder smokes to enjoy.
Regarding the band, I tend to leave mine on while I smoke, unless it is already loose fitting. If you smoke the cigar, the heat will tend to loosen up any glue that may be causing the band to stick to the wrapper. If you do this, you lessen the risk of damaging the cigar. Just my on that but everybody had there own preference regarding the bands.

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
My compliments on your review!!!!
The Montesino is a splendid cigar! It's not cheap, but not beyond the reach of us "commoners." I have a box resting in the bottom of one of my coolers, and consider it a "special-occasion" smoke. I may be cheap, but I appreciate a good cigar! |

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
Nice review, Scott. HaHa! I actually looked at this brand to see if I wanted to send you one for the blind taste test thinking since noone talks about these you'd never know.
I guess you might have picked it.Good price you picked them up for, they were just a bit more in the shop. Quote:
But don't worry, I feel the same way when trying to describe a cigar. |

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
The Montesino Diplomatico was my first box purchase many years ago. I like the maduro version the best but the natural isn't bad either. Still a good cigar and I like to smoke them now and then for nastalgia purposes.

Re: Montesino Diplomatico
One of my first box purchases too. Damn fine cigars and and looks-wise, they are as impressive as any cigar out there, ISOMs included. Can't remember when I had one last tho, as I have moved almost exclusivley to Nics and Hondurans.
Enyjoy the hell out of them! Mike
