Arganese Double Wrap Review

This was my first experience with Arganese...and my last....

So I got a 6 pack sampler straight from Arganese about 2 months ago (i think because i won the game on their site)...in it was a Double Wrap Churchill. Here is my review on it:

Construction: looks great, feels nice, not too oily

Pre-light draw: a little on the loose side for me, but not too bad

1/3: When this thing got lit it immediately tasted harsh...very grassy and young tasting, not really any good flavors standing out

2/3: never picked up, still young and grassy, very uneven burn

3/3: let it urn out before i even got to it

Overall: This was a very bad cigar IMHO...it had strong flavors of grass and that "toooo young" taste...the burn was also very uneven.

I cut it open to see what the filler was like inside of it and guess what i found...parts of the tobacco leaves inside the cigar were still green!! I will never smoke another Arganese cigar again...i put this cigar out about half-way into the 2nd third, i wanted to give it a chance to pick up but it never did, it only got worse...very disappointing because of how nicely the cigar looked before i torched it

I know that this may be a little harsh but it's hard to overcome such a bad experience with a cigar like this to try it again when i can smoke something else that i know i will like better than this...

Sorry about the bad experience. I've learned that you shouldn't totally write off a brand just because you disliked one of their cigars. Leave the rest in your humi for a few months and try it again. If it still sucks, then you probably don't like it. At least try one of their other blends before giving up on them.

I bought an Arganese at my B&M last month. It was a Maduro Chairman in a pretty large figurado shape. I noted that it was a very flavorful 70 minute smoke with good smooth draw and nice body. It was also only $2.50, that's why I tried it out. It had a nice shape and appeared to be well made, which it was. I never heard of them so I went to their web site and looked around. I would buy more of them for that price and that's what I told the store manager. Maybe I was lucky. I have a Arganese Connecticut Ambassador Churchill in the bottom of my humi. When I torch it I'll let you know what my inexperienced palette thinks of it. George

Thats a bummer you had a bad experience. The only Arganese I had was the Nicaraguan and i thought it was pretty good. I will def. smoke a few more of these, especially for the price. Let us know what you think of the rest of the bunch alright?

Whatever you do, please dont rule out Arganese cigars because of your experience with the double wrap. I was on the Arganese factory tour earlier this year, and while I loved every Arganese cigar I have smoked, the double wrap was...interesting! It is indeed beautifully constructed, (only the best of the best rollers at the factory get to make those barber poles!) but I recall an unusual grassy flavor as well as a very tight draw. I will pick one up again soon and see if my experience changes. Perhaps, as you mentioned, it still needs some more aging. A barberpole cigar is good in theory, but difficult to master in practice. Because of the two different type of wrapper leaves, the uneven burn is almost inevitable. I had a similar experience with another barberpole, a CAO America Monument.

If you decide to try Arganese again, the Nicaraguan Presidente is an outstanding cigar, and the Maduro Chairman is a favorite with Arganese devotees.

it's way too hard for me to find arganese around here so i wouldn't just give up on them because of that experience, i just don't feel like making the effort to find a vendor, it's like they say in business...have a customer with a good experience and they'll tell 10 people, have a customer with a bad experience and they'll tell 100 people...

Thanks for saving me the time and money. I knew that the Joe's Jambalaya price of $30 for 20 sticks was too good to be true.

Re: Arganese Double Wrap Review

I'm a big arganese fan and supporter, I always have some Maduro and Cugines on hand. Right now I got 2 bxes of the Maduro coronas and a Bundle of Cugines in the cooler.

DONT knock Arganese as a brand after smoking ONLY the double wrap. That would be like smoking an arturo fuente spanish lonsdale, not liking it, and saying everything from fuente is shit. INSANE. Try the cigars that the brand is known for before you go around shooting your mouth off and generalizing a whole company.

Re: Arganese Double Wrap Review

I have enjoyed reading comments here about Arganese because I have tried almost all of them and have smoked Arganese since they first came out.
Here's my 2 cents about the ones I still enjoy regularly and recommend at low prices that have been available lately from major on-line vendors: (all have straight burns and ample smoke & flavor)
Nicaraguan President: great. has same flavor profile of a lot of pricier and more popular Nics--full-bodied
Maduro chairman: not as dynamic as a year or so ago (there was creamy smoke and more changes w/ spice etc.) but flavor is good (similar to Flor de Oliva and 5 Vegas Series A)--medium-bodied
Estilo Dominicano: (sometimes poke w/draw enhancer because of tight but working draw) What a wonderful sweet, Sumatra seed/Ecuador grown wrapper dominating the taste of this cigar from first puff! A consistent churchill at 25 for $30--but I've paid less--just a shade short of medium body

Re: Arganese Double Wrap Review

I smoked 2 double wraps and thought they were garbage. I also smoked a robusto sampler that I was not very impressed with. I understand peoples hesitation to judge after a couple of sticks but with all there is to try nowdays, I'm not going to go back to a stick I don't like just to make sure they suck.
