Famous Nicaraguan 3000 Robusto Review

DonWeb was kind enough to give me a Havana Cutter, i got his package, and it had an additional treat in it .

the package also contained an AVO XO and a Famous-Smoke 3000 Robusto.

i smoked the robusto today, man it was excellent.

pre-light-
this smoke had a very nice, smooth and dark wrapper.
it didnt have that much of an aroma to it, but i liked what i could smell from the foot.
i also noticed that it wasnt a round cigar, it was slightly pressed on the top and bottom.

i clipped it with the havana cutter, which by the way is the best ive ever used.

unlit, the cigar tasted very smooth, a tiny bit of spice was detected, but i didnt see it as a full bodied smoke as described by famous-smoke.

i lit it with my torch lighter, it toasted evenly and easily.

the cigar burned VERY slowly, and evenly.
it left a firm white ash, and inside the cigar was burning with a slight outward cone.

smoking it, i noticed that i tasted strong coffee/espresso, and some green plant notes. it tasted great.
the robusto put out a lot of smoke, and the size and shape were just a joy to hold/smoke.

robusto vitola smokes have always been my favorite.

overall, this was an excellent price, im gonna have to pick some up from famous, they are pretty cheap too.

Re: Famous Nicaraguan 3000 Robusto

I ordered a bundle of these cigars and I just don't like them. They taste harsh and bitter from the beginning and they don't seem to get any better as they burn. I have smoked two of them, the first one was the day they arrived and the secound about a week later. I'm not going to smoke another until they set in the humidor for about six months.

I have smoked other strong cigars but they had a smoothness that the 3000 just doesn't have.

If you dont like them, maybe I can take them off your hands.

really?
i thoroughly enjoyed the cigar, i did have my humi running at 60%, i am finding that for some reason the cigars are burning longer and more flavorfully.

These are a great cigar for the money. The only one I've tried was a gift from my man Poriggity. An excellent smoke. I've got one more left, but then I've got to buy a bundle.

Look -- these have a fixed and limited supply, so can we just agree with Kenmon that the 3000's are crap and leave it at that? Please, i've spent this months cigar allowance already.

WBill:
I was gonna post someting up about the perils of smoking a gar too soon; 1 day or 1 week is simply not enough time to rest. Your 3000's will get much better.

Not picking on you Bill, if everyone had the same taste in cigars there'd only have to be one brand made, but I really like 'em! I smoke one of these almost every day now and just bought my 4th, 5th and 6th bundle. I like them right off the mail truck, but I find they do get a bit better with age. They also seem better to me at 70% rh instead of 65% rh.

Anyway, I'm glad not everyone loves them - more available for me!

I haven't been smoking cigars but a few months now. I understand that you have to acquire a taste for the stronger cigars like most people do with good Scotch Whisky, I just love Scotch on the rocks. I'm going to let the 3000's set in my coolerdor for awhile and see if my taste might change the more I smoke cigars, I'm not going to give up on them right now.

IMO that is a very good idea. Even if they never realy turn out to be your cup of tea atleast you're keeping an open mind

Re: Famous Nicaraguan 3000 Robusto

I am adding a bundle of these to a list of sticks I am putting together for the wife to get me for my B-Day in May. Hell, they are pretty cheap so what's to lose in trying them? Worst case scenario is if I do not like them I will put them in the moochadore for the BBQ season for when people who rarely ever smoke are over and want to grub a smoke.

Too true. I tried an RP Vintage 1990 recently that got great reviews and given the type of smokes I enjoy, should have been right up my alley. I didn't like it at all. Oh well, you never know until you try them for yourself.

As far as letting the cigars rest for awhile, no offense, but I have personally never noticed any difference. I smoked a Bolivar RC straight out of the mail box the other day and it was awesome! I can't see how 2 weeks or 6 months in the humi would make them any better. Maybe 5 or 10 years.

I have noticed that some brands are very consistent, especially with sticks from the same box. Other brands seem to be very inconsistent, you get a good one, then a bad one followed by a great one. With brands like that you need to smoke a bunch before deciding. You might average the ratings of 10 smokes to decide if they're good or not. Does a great smoke make up for the crappy one before that?
