Vintage Flavor with an economy price: Victor Sinclair Vintage
Toro 6 X 50 box pressed
Brazilian Maduro Wrapper Cuban Seed long leaf Dominican binder & filler With the price of just over $2 a stick (from CI), I was told it couldn’t be beat. At a distance, this cigar had eye appeal. The white/black/gold colors gave it a fairly classy look that you’d expect on a vintage cigar. Upon closer inspection, the band was flat with no embossing. The wrapper was dark, but not extremely smooth, had a few outstanding veins. The box press gave it a decent finished look. The cap clipped nicely, with no cracks or loose wrap. The pre-light draw had a taste of pipe tobacco - it reminded me of the black cavandish that my father-in-law used to smoke years ago. The foot toasted easily and the draw was excellent. Plumes of smoke billowed from both ends. I have to say, however, that for the first inch all that smoke was deceiving. It started out mild, so mild it had almost no discernable flavor at all! I was hoping that more flavor would appear soon, or it was going to be a painfully boring smoke. After the 1″ mark, the flavor started to kick in with notes of leather and coffee. The burn wasn’t perfectly even but not annoying. The ash was fairly loose and fell off unexpectedly at 1″. The leather/coffee flavors remained and there was an additional floral note, similar to lemon grass. But the smoke began to take on a creamier consistancy at 2″. The ash was still grainy and flakey and began to have a fluted appearance before that inch fell off. The burn was still fairly consistent, along with the flavors and volume of smoke. The flavors were quite enjoyable and each puff finished very clean. At the half way point, there was no indication of any tar build up in the cap and it had taken on a hint of unsalted cashew. The flavors stayed for the duration of the smoke. With about 2″ left, I touched up the burn just a little. I enjoyed this cigar to just under an inch. For a vintage cigar with an inexpensive price, it was a very good cigar. I wouldn’t mind having a few stashed in the humi. They’re a nice mild/med smoke. It would be a good starter cigar to offer a friend….that you wanted to keep. In fact, I’d smoke one with them! ![]()
