El Rey Del Mundo Rothschild 5x50 Cedar wrapped Review

For as long as I have been enjoying Honduran cigars over the rest of the legal cigar producing regions; this was the first ERDM that I have smoked. Boy, was I an idiot!!! I've been reading the reviews on these for at least three years yet never purchased any, Maybe I was distracted too much by my other Hondo mainstays in my humidor. Anyway...

These robustos(rothchild) have been in humi-chest for a little over two months @64-69% RH. Pulled off the cedar wrapper, and behold, a glorious reddish brown Ecuadorian wrapper, some slight veins, two small discolored spots, yet slightly toothy w/ oils. Binder and Filler are Hunduran.

Cut the head, took a prelight draw= tastes of light spice & hint of nutmeg which gave me good pre-fire up impression.

The ignition of this cigar was awesome! The first 1/4" of this stick provided strong cedar and wood w/ a peppy finish. Tons of rich, thick & hearty Hondo smoke!!! Man it opened my eyes!!! This flavor may not be those who like milder cigars but me likey!!! After that first 1/4" this ERDM opened up with lush creamy Hondo flavor (that earthy core I really appreciate) yet the finish remained peppery and spicey with some slight sweetness on my lips during the middle of the smoke. The last 1/2" took on a tary taste which ultimately brought to rest in my ashtray.

My overal impression, this is a damn good smoke!! Great construction, draw, and Flavor. I am going to let rest for another couple of months and try the ERDM again. Has anyone smoked this particular ERDM with some age on them, 6 months to a Year????? please share. Well, I'm off to make some fantastic Chicken Fajitas with friends and smoke some cigars!!!

Long Ashes!!

I bought 5 Rothschilds almost a year ago. I smoked one and liked it, but thought it was a bit too peppery and strong for my tastes at the time. Your email has reminded me that I have a few more with about a year of additional age on them. I'm going to try another this week and will report back my experience.

I can not figure out why I've never had one of these; ERDM. I've read so many great reviews about this line and even though I keep telling myself to bye some I have yet to do so.

Nice review!

I love ERDM's! I have enjoyed everyone that I have had. They were all Oscuro wrapper but in different sizes. Which wrapper did you have? For the price it is an awesome smoke ($54/20 @ JRs) I recommend them to anyone likes a full flavored/med-full bodied somke.
Great review BTW!

As far as I know, the only ones that come in Oscuro are the Robusto, Robusto Larga, and Robusto Suprema. The rest are either natural, EMS, or regular maduro.

I've had the Robusto, Rothschild, Petit Lonsdale, and Rectangular. They are all good, but my fave is the Robusto. Its just so damn tasty.

It took me a long time to get around to them. My local stocks plenty but doesn't carry ERDM. On a recent trip to the big city wityh Rit and TypeO I snagged some robustos - they are very flavorful to say the least and now one of my favorites at any price.

Had a ERDM robusto 5x54 oscuro this afternoon. One of my favorites. Thick smoke, lots of flavour, strong nic buzz. Felt like i was in heaven for 35 minutes.
