Camacho SLR Maduro Review

In my unoffical quest to sample the best maduros, I went way outside my comfort zone and picked up a Camacho SLR Maduro.
I was somewhat nervous as I've heard the Camachos can have quite a kick, ...but what the heck.

My smoking technique is take long slow draws to reduce the heat/harshness as I was treating this cigar as something that might bite back if I wasn't careful.

Cigar: Camacho SLR Maduro Toro
Size: 6.0 x 50

Pre-light
This cigar has an excellent rich brown wrapper with a smooth oily sheen. Although I didn't detect any particular aromas from the body, the foot did give off a slightly sweet tabacco scent. The construction was firm, and after the cut, yielded a mild peppery taste on the tongue with a firm draw.

Lit
The pepper/spice flavors came into there own after being lit and were well maintained throughout. The cigar smoke has a pleasant smell and a slow draw makes a good amount of smooth creamy smoke. When retrohaling, you get the sensation of nice spices with pepper notes at the back of the throat.

The smoke was consistantly cool when drawing slowly and it maintained a well defined burn line creating a dark grey ash with mild flaking.

Towards the middle, the peppery flavors at the back of the throat became more pronounced, with the occasional fruity component that I found tough to place, but enjoyed.

After the secondary band came off, I found the smoke remained cool and the heat on the fingers was warm and comfortable.

Near the end, the pepper flavor was strong but good and I went close to nubbing this one, well beyond where I thought I would be.

After 90 minutes I found a new appreciation for the Camacho line of cigars.

With a nice bit of ash at the end this cigar just looks good in your hand.

There are other maduros out there for me to try, but if I'm in the mood for a medium to full-bodied maduro that delivers, this one's on the list.

I can see why it's consistanly rate 90.

A follow-up.

I posted that review around 8:30pm EST, and rolled into bed around 9:00.

Although I managed to contain the Nic-Zing, I had enough on board to keep me wide-eyed till 1:00am.

That would be okay, except I get up at 4:00am for work.

Signed,
Your Bleary-Eyed Conqueror

Thanks for the writeup. I bought two Camancho SLR Maduro Perfectos a little while back. Smoked one the other week and wasn't fully satisfied. Hoping it was a fluke and the second one is better. I've always liked Camancho sticks.

In your maduro quest, what else have you been trying? Full-bodied maduros are my favorite and I'm always looking for new sticks to try.

I was about to grab one of those today at Cousins, but decided on the Diploma instead. Maybe I'll get one tomorrow.

Nice review.
