Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra Review

So I'll admit, I've never had one of these, and I'm not great at reviews, but here goes.

At first appearance it had a very dark wrapper. It had a few small veins and some bumps on it (maybe due to the binder or filler), but overall looked and felt pretty solid. The smell off the foot was definitely a dark chocolate smell. My fiance (even being not good at picking out smells) was also able to detect this.

Upon first light I picked out a couple flavors: mostly chocolate, but a little cinnamon and spice. Further in (about a 3rd), the cinnamon flavor definitely intensified and lasted for the rest of the smoke. It burned pretty even, and didn't need any touch-ups (a major bonus in my book). Overall this was an excellent cigar, especially for the moderate price range (don't know what they ordinarily go for, but I paid like 5). It spent a couple months resting.

I would give it a 9/10.

Nice review Eric! I have only had it once and don't remember a thing about it. Thanks for sharing.

This is a favorite morning cigar of mine. It's great with a cup of coffee.

Thanks Eric,
I keep going back to the HdM line every once in a while. My first experience was with the Sultan maduro and it was magnificent. Although not in my rotation, this is a top notch line.

Had one of these beginning of the week. It was Fabulous!! lots of nice creamy smoke, a little light on the draw, but not too light. Perfect in taste as well. Problem was that 1/2 way through i got a plug and could get it to relight, and when i did manage to get it going it was harsh as hell.
Think the plug might have come from over humidification. Was listening to Dogwatch Radio reviewing it and had to stop at the B&M and smoke it when i got home . bad mistake on my part.

Re: Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra

My brother gifted me one of these a couple months ago which I had the other night. I thought it was rather tasty, good burn/draw w/ plenty of smoke. I do plan on getting a few more to try.
