Bobalu - Texas Select Review
This cigar was a gift from Warhorse545 and is rolled in Texas.
The cigar was a lonsdale size - Connecticut shade wrapper. The cigar was expertly crafted. The feel was right and the burn was near perfect. The cigar started out very light and mild. About one third through, it developed a herbal overtone that was very pleasant while maintaining a nice light body. The finish was pleasantly spicy and flavorful. I smoked this cigar in the car on the way to work and was wishing that I had filled my travel mug with a light bodied black coffee this morning to accompany this very nice cigar. This was an enjoyable smoke that I would recommend to others looking for an enjoyable NC cigar.

Re: Bobalu - Texas Select
The Texas Selects are the freshly-rolled cigars on site at Bobalu's. Bobalu's has been mentioned on another thread before, but for those that don't know, it's a cigar shop that sells their own premium cigars (all imported tobacco of course). I guess you can compare it to a microbrewery. Anyway, I've stopped at this place in Austin a few times and really like their cigars. The blue label is definitely my favorite. As for the Texas Select, it is a good stick just too mild for my taste.

Re: Bobalu - Texas Select
Glad to see that ya did not gag over it
And they are on the mild side for sure I have found. Just thought it would be something interesting to send.I thought about some of their other lines they had to send, but wanted something that was rolled in Texas. I believe that the Texas Select is the only one that is rolled in the store. But I could be wrong. I found them to be a bit different in taste. Not sure where I really stand on them. I got a few more to try and shall see after them. These are the only fresh rolled smokes I have had. Was interesting to see it done in person. Though I got to say it is an interesting smell in their humidor. Not the normal humidor smell for sure. No idea what was up with that. But that is Austin and as they say " Keep Austin Weird " But glad that you enjoyed it Joe. Always a risk going to that part of Austin. Never know when Leslie might be around. Re: Bobalu - Texas Select
I smoked several offerings from Bobalu & posted reviews in the top25 database.
I found many of them to be quite enjoyable.

Re: Bobalu - Texas Select
The roller there is Cuban. Every once and awhile when the usps decides to get crazy with my cigar packages i will end up with a broken wrapper and take it there to be re rolled using their wrappers. Great place and good cigars, it is just a shame that you can't smoke their cigars on 6th street while listing to some live music. I can remember when they had tabacco girls carrying trays of cigars around into all of the bars!

Although you can smoke in the store.I hit this place up on my trip to Austin last weekend. While I only bought one cigar from the helpful gal in the store, it was one I wouldn't mind trying again. The fresh-rolled Texan no-label cigars had a smell to it (the cigar, not the aroma) that was rather intoxicating...it was a Robusto, rather light in color and sweet smelling. I kept sniffing the actual cigar from pre-cut all the way through to the nub it smelled so good! Flavor was good throughout and I'm thinking I might have to order a few more for the humi although the 'fresh-rolled' aspect is kinda nifty and if I aged one for a bit, I wonder what would happen to the flavors & that smell. |
