Victor Sinclair Bohemian (first cigar write-up)

Pre-light:
Aroma: It had a slight "barn-yard" smell to it through the stick and a hint of pepper. The exposed foot left a rich tobacco smell but it was rather faint
Draw: This is a torpedo, which I started off taking only a 1/16" cut off of the end. The draw here was good with medium resistance. However, with such a small portion taken off I was suspecting I would have to clip more off into it. The taste pre-light was of a rich tobacco taste and I could foresee a small pepper taste to follow.

First Few Puffs: It had a coffee-taste for the open and a rich tobacco finish. When retro haled (through the nose) it had slight pepper

First Third: The burn canoed a bit at first, but with some rotation and changing my rate of smoking it fixed it self on its own. As I felt would happen the draw stiffened about a 1/2 inch into it, so I clipped some more off which opened the draw considerably. It was a little loose but i figured it would tighten up a little bit again. Here the pepper picked up but was not overwhelming. Personally, I love full-bodied smokes and this is a taste I long for. At 1" the pepper picked up again slightly and took over. Though the finish was slightly harsh but after not puffing for a bit it smoothed into a tangy/sweet finish. There were hints of leather/earthy tastes as well and the pepper picked up toward the end of the first third. The ash held to about 1 and a 1/2 inches until it fell onto my notebook!!

Second Third: As I suspected, the draw stiffened into the medium resistance range, which is perfect for me. In the beginning of the second third the pepper begins to subside with the coffee hinting back and the main flavors taking over being the leathery/earthy and woodsy tastes. About half way through the second third I noticed some chemical type flavors and harshness. So with some experience in purging and positive results doing so I purged the cigar at this point (about 40 mins into smoking). This seemed to alleviate some of the harshness letting the earthy/woodsy tastes dominate once again. Then about 3/4 through the second third the pepper came back, but only slightly, just hinting and begging me to continue! Very enticing/complex smoke! Then at the end of the second third the spice subsides and coffee takes over as the dominant flavor with a long tangy/sweet finish. However, the ash only held about 3/4 of an inch before it fell again.

Final Third: This was my least favorite portion of the cigar. (Probably because I was smoking a little fast as it was 32 degrees outside!). The draw picked up a little more resistance, but not enough to make me quit at this point. Though the flavor became a little harsh and I purged it once again about an hour into the smoke. This helped push the harshness back and allowed the earthy/woodsy tastes to take over once again! The finish continued to be long and tangy/sweet though that shifted right at the end to a toasty flavor/finish. So just past 1 hour the flavor that dominated was toasty as well as the finish. The burn was a bit messy (probably due to fast smoking) so I touched it up. It became slightly harsh again and I feared that if I purged it one more time the flavor would be trashed, so I nubbed it and headed inside.

Overall this was a very complex smoke with flavors shifting throughout, I was very happy with this. I got this cigar in an incredible deal from CI (a Victor Sinclair sampler of 22 cigars for only $34.99!) I have 4 left and will continue with my smoking notes and will add what is needed to my review. One of the most complex cigars I've smoked by far, and it really is considered a "budget" cigar, very excited about that.

**This is my first write up on a cigar, let me know what you think!**

I bought a sampler of 12 VS corojo chisels--they are all good, complex smokes, medium-full body. Thanks for the review.

I've been looking at the deal that CI has on the 3 chisels also(24 sticks). Maybe I'll give them a shot. Hard to go wrong on the price I suppose.
