Don Franciso Robusto Custom Blend Review

Well so much for self-discipline. I broke down and had my first DF last night after planning on saving my recent sampler for an upcoming trip. This is my first ever review and I'll try to keep it short and simple.

Cigar: Robusto Custom Blend. Size: 50x5.

Appearance: Beautiful. A coworker (who usually tries to play it cool like he's seen it all before) was drilling me about this cigar and why it looked so good. Construction was perfect and I find the DF band to be an absolute stunner, one of my favorites ever.

Draw: I'm not sure what defines a superb, great, or poor draw. I thought this was very much in line with most of the nicer cigars I've had. Somewhat firm, but not difficult. Comfortable. Consistent throughout.

Burn: I had just a tad bit of uneven burning (that corrected itself with the exception of one little hit with the torch), but it was in the 30's and I usually have issues with any cigar in this type of weather. Again, MINOR is the key word here and it did not effect my enjoyment at all.

Taste: Superb. I was very intrigued after the first few puffs. A very clean, rich tobacco taste with a very velvety mouth feel. The smoke FELT thick, if that's possible. This cigar provided a great aftertaste that is hard to describe other than enjoyable. The flavor stayed with me between pulls. Also, from time to time I would get a nice hit of spice/pepper that wasn't present in every pull. Cool trick, Lew! Stayed delicious right to the end, and frozen toes ended this cold weather smoking adventure probably before I wanted to, but 1 hour was enough. It really felt like I had experienced a 'special' smoke. As I was sitting and reflecting on this cigar afterwards, I had a weird flashback to an older girl I dated in my late teens who was very skilled, so to speak. I never quite figured her out or got her under control, but I always had a BLAST and wanted more.

Notes: I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. I am even less likely to stay out of the rest of my DF's now that I've had this one. I'm very glad I got in contact with Lew and pulled the trigger.

Sorry for my lack of better cigar-related descriptors, but I'm working on it...

Each time I see a review about Lew's cigars or see a bomb he sent with his smokes makes me want to snag some from him. In due time.

Sounds like a good cigar, and worth sitting on until Spring brings better smoking weather so I can really enjoy it. The sampler I bought will just have to wait until a comfortable herfing opportunity arises, but I do look forward to it.

A review from your experience is always better than A review from A review. You did A fine job. Glad you enjoyed it too. Good job.

I might do the CAO LX2 once I smoke another one. Picked up four more last night at $5 a pop.

Just read the review again. Guess I'm going to have to break down after the first of the year and get some Don Francisco's. I haven't had the chance to try one yet.
